I recently received my Golden Ticket to join The Board. I purchased a 1960 GMC PD 4104 back in July, and have been following The Board since then. I am quite impressed with the amount of knowledge that seems to be out there. I hope to get involved on a regular basis so that my bus conversion/maintenance becomes second nature. I have read alot of recent, and archived threads. However, I can spend many more hours with all of the information contained here. Hopefully, one day I can offer some helpfull information to a fellow nut.

Thanks for having me,

Mike Everard

Welcome Mike Feel free to ask questions. You will get answers most of the time. Not always good ones or even answers to the question that you asked but answers none the less. Pick and choose the one that fits your needs. Please post any solutions that work for you as some one else will probably need it also. Rod.

Welcome Mike

1960 was a good year for coaches, don't let Gomer try and persuade you otherwise.

......aboard!

Were GLAD to have you
(and you WILL be had at some point down the road!)

Anyone here will tell you it is worth 10 times the price of admission alone.
We want your perspective, input, ideas & questions
(and a dedicated bunch expects your humor as well)

Speaking for myself only...
I hope you are the type who plans on integrating with our Community & has aspirations of camaraderie ....
You re-enforced that hope by your thoughtful opener.

Please
don't be one of those who thinks this
Forum is full of experts ON CALL for FREE ADVICE.....
to solve his continuation of mechanical malfunctions....
once he has his answer...
POOF GONE
until his next emergency pops up.
We are THE FREE SOLUTION to his problems and NOTHING MORE....

We've all been down the same road you are pulling on to,
and if there is one prevalent goal here...
it is to see that no one else makes the mistakes we have.

Dive in, find a Buddy, enjoy the banter & info
and don't forget to have fun!

.and don't be bashful....

I have learned, in snooping as Gomer puts it, That this forum is a source of humor as well as information. I hope to be a part of it to the fullest. I am not going anywhere and expect to be a part of it until, Poof, I'm gone. My wife and I love our bus, as most of you do, and look forward to many years of enjoyment. I hope in the future to meet some of you in person. However, until then, I will continue to Listen, Laugh, and Chirp in when the time is right.

Thanks,
Mike

P.S. I have a sense of humor and believe we all need a little fun made of us once in a while to keep us grounded.

Gosh, Mike.....Not sure I know ANY on this board who fit that precise format,(and can't begin to imagine such an"approach" to a "new comer on this board).....

... but should I, I would have to say they are most probably very appreciative for the "expertise" of solving (resolving)"mechanical malfunctions", and other coach related topics provided.

There is a wealth of information on conversions, coaches, buses, engines, transmissions, etc, Mike, as you already know, coming from a bunch of folks with "expertise" that most of us do not have. Many from years of experience in a trade, in the business, and...yes, from hard knocks. I, for one, do not have much to offer, except the hard knocks part. The Archives have information on most any and all subjects...perhaps some you might not have thought to ask about. After 10 years in this "hobby"...and converting ( yes, still..:-)) a 1964 coach, I can offer little about the subject that was not obtained, in one way or another, from folks who voluntarily answered questions, offered helpful and meaningful suggestions and supplied valuable supplier information on this great source...Bus Nuts. Many thanx again to Ian, who puts up with us!

Personally should I be interested in "banter"...(BS?, diatribe-tripe? and such), ...well, guess I would search the web, or other source for "such".

Happy to have you "aboard", Mike. Sift the chaff, as my ole' Grand Pa would have said. :-)

Mike -

Welcome aboard! and Mama, too!

I'm not too far away from you, in Fresno. Cold Pepsi's in the fridge, waiting to share war stories anytime you're in the area.

There's several busnuts all within a one > three hour drive from you, so you're not alone. Not all are active on the BBS's tho. Sadly!

FWIW & HTH. . .

:-)

PS: What's the VIN on your coach? PD4104-XXXX?

Hi Mike -

I'm just a girl and don't know anything. But feel free to ask and I'll give you my opinion. Then these guys will correct me... and then they'll correct each other... and if you can sort it all out ("sift the chaff") you'll have an answer (or not). :-)

Seriously, welcome aboard. It's a good bunch with tons of knowledge to share.

Welcome Mike...

I like to see another '04 owner here. I bought mine in '07 and we'll be ready for the road this summer (I hope)...1953 4104-204. Guess we're on opposite coasts, but that's only 300 or so gallons of Diesel away, eh?

Enjoy, learn, and most of all share...

Thanks All,

RJ,

I may take you up on that visit. I have some childhood friends that live in Clovis that I haven't seen in 40 years, and we've been talking about getting together in the future. I will let you know if I'm heading that way.

My Vin# is 4104-4520. I have a picture of the bus as it looked years ago and it was blue and grey. I am assuming it started out as a Greyhound. I look forward to what you can tell me.

Mike -

You've got a West Coast Car - PD4104-4520 was delivered to Western Greyhound Lines, headquartered in San Francisco, CA as fleet number 7542. It was part of a 75-bus order that arrived on the property during February and March of 1960. Probably spent the majority of it's WGL life running up and down 101 between the City and LA. Wouldn't be surprised if it made a few trips through Fresno, too!

Back then, Greyhound had an excellent maintenance program, considered a model for others to emulate. (Sadly, not that way today, tho.) So, for at least the first 10 - 11 years of it's commercial service life, it was well taken care of.

Greyhound back then traditionally sold off coaches when the summer peak season ended around Labor Day, usually after their 10th or 11th year with the company. From WGL, who knows where it went - I can't help you there.

If you haven't been here in awhile, you won't recognize Clovis. It's almost 100K in population itself nowadays!

Give me a call - number's in my profile - if/when you point the '04 south on 99.

FWIW & HTH. . .

:-)

Running 101 and 99 wasn't always a good thing....
I had a 58 Rambler that spent it's life doing deliveries between SF, Ca and Yachats, Or. about a year after I got it the front frame members turned into rusticles. The whole engine dropped out the bottom and split much of the wagon the rest of the way apart.
Just being from the west coast doesn't guarantee a rust or corrosion free chassis or body, which is a popular myth perpetrated by many that have 'penguin' leanings!
Many of the smaller bus companies that ran the coast routes and were later taken over by hound and TW, were moth eaten and salt diluted units.

A Native Tucson GearHead
wouldn't give a Cali car
a second of his efforts....

I have a Body Shell that arrived from Sandy-Eggo..
original owners sold it to me
It sat in a carport with the Passenger side facing West
guess which side is solid & which is Swiss Oxide.....?

Ever see a car whose Roof was half eaten away by salt..?
the lower body is fine...funny enough!
