On a 4106 the three cylinder type compressor for the air conditioning system. I see a pump I'm thinking It's the condenser fan pump. Has any one ever seen one that had lines going from that pump all the way to the front axle for like maybe a power assit steer? If I remember right the man I got the bus from told me that the bus had like a power assit steering and back in the days the drivers for some of the coach lines complained about then and did away with then. I see the lines right at the steering box but they are just conected together and no booster cylinder. Any input on this becuse I'm wanting to go to power steering. And boy oh boy do I want the air assit clutch system. That mechanism assit clutch release just not going to cut it. Try driven in a city from light to light for little bit. Wow

No it's a pump with oil or some kind of fluid in it.It has like high pressure lines that got to the condenser fan pump for the air conditioning system. And two line leave their and go to the front axel. At the condenser fan pump the lines go in to a junction block. Where two lines come from the pump at rear of bus. As well as two line to the condenser fan pump. At that point at the junction block two line go to the front axle. The two lines at front axel are not connected to any thing now but at one time they where. The front lines are just joined together

I got the (mousetrap) and talk to Luke he talked me in to ordering the supplement maintenance manual book. I did it shows it in their and the adjustment part looked right to me from what I see. Not sure but looked right to me .I greased the parts that needed it but still it's a leg buster. Seems when you start to come up with it don't stop because it's hard to hold. See i lift the clutch peddle slowly till i start to feel something. Like if i was on a hill and was getting ready to pull out and had to wait a few more mins if you start to lift the clutch peddle you better not stop just keep going because it's hard to do that

Bob: I'll give this a stab. Sounds as though u had a power assist unit on the steering at one time or another: the two lines went to the hydraulic ram connected to the tie rod and sounds as though someone has removed it and merely connected the supply and return pressure lines together. The pump u refer to on the engine is probably a power steering hydraulic pump. I'm not aware that any 4106 ever came with the 3 cylinder Carrier A/C compressor and the A/C condenser was located in the front road side cargo bay. Also, there is no such thing as a Condenser fan pump. There was a condensor fan and that would have been in the compartment with the condensor. The A/C had no connectivity to the power steering. Most GM's came with the Delco A6 compressors, about 6" in diameter and 1' long. The A/C lines are noticeably larger than power steering lines, approx. 1" in diameter. Are the hoses approx. 5/8" diameter OD, woven jacket hose? Hydraulic if so. Hope this helps to sort things out. Get that manual that Luke recommended.

Hmmm well I,m lost because i know the air conditioning compressor is big and looks like it has a clutch for a car on it. I seen the ones your talking about before. But i never seen this one it's in the manual everthings look the same but that pump at the rear bottom of the air conditioning compressor. The air conditioning compressure is shaft driven.the pump has three belts to drive it comeing from the rear part or the air conditioning compressure. I tracyed the lines from the rear or the air conditioning comressor where the pump is. (Looks like a chevy car power steering pump). all the way to the a condensor fan and that would have been in the compartment with the condensor.thats where the junctiom block is

OK folks as Fast Fred would say!
De Book sez On the PD-4106 for the Air Conditioning system in Section 26.
Condenser fan and drive.
It has a hydraulic pump driven off of the A/C compressor drive and the condenser fan is turned by a hydraulic motor.
The hydraulic pump is mounted under the air conditioning compressor.And is belt driven from the A/C compressor drive shaft.
The condenser fan motor is a hydraulic motor driven by fluid under pressure created by the hydraulic pump.
The reservoir is located on the L/H side of the coach in the rear under the floor in front on the rear bench seat.Access plate is held down by 4 screws.
Now for the power steering question.
If the 2 lines are connected together I would say that the power steering assist ram has been removed.
Is the power steering pump still located on the engine and is it still good?
If the pump is still there then you can add Sheppard power steering to your 4106.
That's my 2cents worth.

Thank you JL. Vickers I know something was there from the factor but didn't see it in the book but it's just like you said. And also thanks to Claim jumper I'll try that. I checked everything and grease it but like any thing else when is tight enough.I just wish i could have more knowlege on it because I hear good things about it . And after trying a air assist clutch that a freinds got on his made me sick.I think i could get by with out power steer if i could get the clutch to work better.
