Steven Why not change to an air throttle now. So easy to operate. Somebody might have one or try Luke at US Coach. Bill |

Steve, as Bill stated now is the time to change to the air throttle. when the one in my 4104 started giving me trouble i was lucky enough to have some one tee me about the air throttles and how easy they are to put in. how ever they have some differances , they need at least 5 # of air to operate which means you have a slight delay at start up before you can rev the engine, also they have a different feel of engine control. now the GOOD side once you have it installed you never have grease that cable again, no more wore or fraid cable to seize at high rpm or at very low rpm. i have had mine in for over 15 years and have helped replace over 10 others and everyone likes them.just call 1-250-248-2766 and i will explain more mel 4104 |

DA Book shows the simple procedure to remove and service the cable. We used PB Blaster to fill the tubing and then a shot of air to remove any old hard grease. Todays teflon marine grease is good to -50F ,(hard to start a DD even with a block heater at -50F)so the job is a simple one shot deal. Air throttles are for the automatic equipped busses , they make shifting a stick a bit Iffy. FF |

I bought a used air "throttle" from NIMCO; I was a little concerned because some people had said that it was "slow" or "jerky". No, not at all -- very smooth and easy working. Couldn't ask for any better. |

Jim, I have a "morse" cable in my 05 Eagle. That bus has tons of miles on it and almost every part of the original linkage was worn out. I will ask my friend who installed it several years ago if he remembers any specifics. Justin |

A few years ago you could order the inner cable from Mowhawk Supply. When the original cable is in place, clean & lubed, it is just about perfect with one light spring. By the way, the speed at which the engine returns to idle affects the speed of your upshift. I have driven air throttle & cable & prefer the feel of the cable when you need to upshift or downshift at other than the exact shift points. The air throttle is "mushy" in my opinion. |

I installed a replacement inner from LUKE at US Coach. Be careful to save the two end fittings. 888Coach34 FF |

Jim, You may not have looked but if you Flx is stock it is all rod no cable on the throttle and the clutch. For the life of me I can't think of any reason I would want to change just keep all the pillow blocks and bellcranks lubed and there isn't much to go wrong |

A Morse cable will work, they come in a variety of duty uses , the larger 43? series is heavier duty than the outboard style 33 series. In severe cold (below 0F ) it may take a heavier return spring. Water intrusion is the usual demise , get the rubber end seals. Movement range about 3 inches. FF |

I have used Morse for years on boats. If I remember correctly the red supreme is there top of the line as far as kink resistance and longevity. I have the factory lube chart showing all the grease points and types. I'll see if I can find a way to duplicate it as it's kind of large...it folds out like a road map (Message edited by timb on February 21, 2011) |

Steve did you find a fix for your throttle? if not i will go out to the shop and see if there are any cables there was a bunch in the scrap and maybe one hanging on the wall, it was put there so when we walked by and seen it we could remember the pain in the ### they are but if you want it i will send it to you'. with the air throttle the days of stiff sore leg caused by the old cable type are over. no more having to pull cables, blow out tubes, clean dirty grease of the cable, clean up the mess, regrease ,put back in fight again to get the ends on,clean up the mess again and your cloths. NOW AS FF said you have to remember is to care a heaver spring to use when the weather gets cold and the cable wants to stick at low or high throttle. these cables are like a bad mother in-law you can cuss and swear at them but when they have been replaced you can sit back and enjoy life no leg pain. so having said this let me know if yow want it. mel 4104 1 250 248 2766 |

You got that right Bill!!! When I had the cable problem turned out to be the outer back in the engine. They must have hit it or something and it would not work. My guy called Luke and Luke got him on right track and had all the parts and send to him. When they installed it, it worked great. I test drove the bus today with new engine overhaul and man do I have more power now. We are working on all the wheels bearings and brakes now. Cant wait to get on the road and do some shows. Thanks Steve |

I had a 4903, swapped the original cable out and put in a Teleflex Extreme cable. Two, actually, one from the pedal to about halfway back, the other from the engine to halfway up, joined them in the middle. Smooth as glass, full POSITIVE control, no maintenance ever, and the pedal would come back up as fast as you could lift your foot (or slam up with a thump if you dropped your foot off of it). The two cables together cost about $100. |
