Is there any MCI owners out there? Sure is awfully quiet here. Maybe we can liven things up by telling a bit about our "projects". Mine is a 1981 MC-9 that I purchased from GECAP through National Coach in Virginia. I am having them remove and skin over three windows on each side, where I plan to put the bathroom and kitchen area. I am pretty good with a wrench, hammer and saw, so I am planning to do the rest of the conversion work myself. I would have tackled the windows as well, but I don't have a pole barn big enough to house the coach during that phase of the project and don't want to risk rainy weather. (I had enough money to build a barn, or buy a coach. Guess which choice won!) My wife and I live in Rockford, MI with our three daughters. I work full time for the Grand Rapids Fire Department as a "Fire Equipment Operator" (fancy name for "driver") and on my days off I work for Verhey Motor Coach, a local charter company. I spend about 60% of my time there working in the garage and 40% driving. My family has been "wanna be" bus nuts for quite a while and are excited to be "newbies". We are looking forward to meeting many of you at rally's and on the road. So tell us a bit about yourself and YOUR project so we can look for you out there!! MR |

There is another man here named Jerry who is doing a total transformation of an MCI. Jim Robinson |

Hi Mark, I became a MCI bus owner in the fall of 2000. I have owned a class C motorhome for a few years and had always dreamed of converting a bus. I settled for an 1982 MCI 9, I bought it in PA from a church who were thinking of converting it but after getting it they decided it was too much for them. I was working on it in my front yard through the winter until early January when the city told me I couldn't have it there. I got the bus out and am now in the process of building a garage big enough for it. The garage wasn't in the plans but I think it will come in handy for the conversion. Once I get the bus home again I'll be raising the roof and adding 18 inches to the length, in case some day I want to put a different motor in. I am divorced, I live in Concord, NH and have 5 children, 2 girls and three boys. The oldest is on her own and one son passed away, the rest of them live at home with me. My oldest son is still in school and races dirt-bikes on the weekends. The plan for the bus is to put a small garage in the back to house the dirt-bikes, I figure I'll use the back 5 feet for that. Lengthening it 18 inches and moving the radiators down into the engine compartment will still give me about the same inside room for living space. The little ones don't care for riding dirt-bikes but love to go camping. I work for an R&D firm as a design engineer, designing mostly medical devices. I'm not one to go fishing or hunting, I usually spend my free time doing projects. The bus is just one more on my list of many. Great idea for a thread, I hope we hear more from others. Rich |

Hi, I'v got 72' MC-7 and I live in it during the week. You can see it in my profile. I think being a busnut would be more fun if I could meet more busnuts in the SO CA area. I also have a 1946 and a 1956 Cessna as well as a 1966 Mustang. I'm a design engineer during the day, and I teach at a college at night. If anyone is planning short trips in the SO CA area let me know. |

Hi Guys, We bought a 1976 MC-8 from Hausman Bus in Los Alamitos March 2000. It was a repo and had some of the seats loose in the back. The bus a/c was being worked on when it was repo'ed and has some new hoses, and a new condensor motor (not yet installed). Drove the bus back to Kingman Az. without too much trouble, did loose all the alternator belts by Barstow, found some at a truck stop and later it stopped charging altogether. So far I have removed the restroom and seats. The floor plan is basically done, now I am waiting for the warmth of summer before raising the roof and installing the new skin. Need the heat to expand the new skin!!!. The 8v-71 and Allison auto seem to run fine, but we have a few oil leaks from the hydraulic system and alternator oil return pipe. The steering is to be changed over to the integral type, which will also cure the oil leak at the steering gearbox. We are going to raise the roof about 8" and install basement a/c, otherwise it won't get into the workshop. If anyone is passing through Kingman, email and let us know, stop in and say Hi, we have a huge in-n-out driveway. Love to share bus info. Peter & Yvonne. |

Airhog: You need to look into Southwest Bus Nuts, an FMCA chapter, if u want to meet people with conversions who can share their hands-on experience. They cover SoCal & SoAZ. |
