Noticed today that from the back of the coach on the left side of the tranny on lower bottom there were two round plugs. One has two red wires going into the plug and this one was unpluged. Does anyone know what this plug with the two red wires does?

this is just a guess...think it's when you have an electronic engine....late model cat has everything fixed where the engine & trans go thru a computer & work together..

you guessed wrong 2 dogs....its either a neutral safety switch or backup light switch.... 740's are mechanical shifted trannys...if the plug has 1/8" pipe threads where it goes to the case, its the backup light switch....its reverse clutch pressure operated.... if its biger, its a detent type .. for neutral safety start...

That would be my guess too Jim, back up light more than neutral safety switch, because of it being disconnected, but having one certainly disconnected isn't unknown.

the back up light switch is a normally open pressure switch... contacts are closed by pressure... in this case, reverse clutch....the neutral safety is a detent type .. its operated off the shift rail....the back up switch has really small pipe thread fittings .... the neutral switch is a lot bigger.....

Hate to say but is neither of the two. Because the netural start and backup lights works.

Maybe a temperature sender?

Wait a couple of weeks and I will have the manuals on the 740, then remind me to look for you.

Peter.

i got my mci-9 crusader service manual out..looking at it right now... all it shows is the reverse switch at transmission....and a neutral switch at transmission... as you have some disconnected wires on yours and everything still works, i suspect that someone has done some sreative wiring somewhere... maybe a microswitch on the linkage for neutral safety and/or back-up lights...

That Is the back up Lights, It works off pressure
so until you put the coach in the reverse gear It wont do anything, take you a continuity meter and plug it In, have someone put the unit In Reverse gear with the engine running and Bingo you will have continuity.

Mine is unpluged because the neutral and back up is in the tower with micro switches. I don't have a 740 I have a v730. (4106). But the two switches on my trans are for neu safety & back-up.
