OK, as many here know, I kind of blew up in Ian's face a while back. I know I can be kind of abrasive (and make no apologies for that). However, I do apologise for my somewhat out of proportion response to Ian.

Johnny,

Absolutely no need to apologize. I appreciate everyone who takes the time to visit this little chunk of cyberspace. I really do.

I think I speak for the majority when I say that a person doesn't have to agree with everything YOU say, but they should never expect you to agree with everything THEY say, either.

Although neither of us will likely win the Nobel Peace Prize, we're both still here and can still have dialogue.

And that, brother, is better than nothing. If we didn't speak to each other - now then, THAT would be a problem, wouldn't it?

It takes a big man to make public apology - even an unnecessary one. For that, you have my deepest respect. You are always welcome here, friend.

Regards,

Ian

Thanks, Ian.

But this site is depressing. Mainly, the people who live in warm areas, since it's currently a 45-degree monsoon here. :( I hate winter.

All the more reason to finish my conversion so I can go south for the winter! :)

And on a total tangent, the board seems really slow today for some reason.

Well Johnny, the sunny south was THE reason for getting my bus done, and I just wanted to tell you, from the warm sunny, southernmost part of the USA, it was worth every doggone minute of it. I am sitting here in shorts, wondering if I need the AC this evening, happy I got my garden watered.

Sorry to burst your bubble, Don, but the Big Island of Hawaii boasts the southernmost tip of the US. But hard to drive a bus to the Big Island.

Scott, I assume that you meant the southermost tip of a US state. I'm sure there is a US territory or possession further south because I lived in Guam, M.I. I have no idea if it will ever become a state.

For what it's worth.

Hey there Johnnie! As for I@n? Do like the New Yorkers and just forgetaboutit! He is fair and as he says, if you don't talk now, THAT would be a problem! I too have had problems with my uh... attitude aimed at I@N but after a while, it all clears itself up and we learn from the past. I'm sure you will see it that way as well as time goes by... so justforgetaboutit!

Geography Lessons: I think there is some part of Florida that is actually further South by an itsy bitsy margin than Brownsville Texas. Somebody got a GPS handy?

Hey, I think if we are going by U.S. property, Mc Murdo Station in Antartica is pretty far south (grin). Except when you are there you wish it was as warm as Canada.

According to my GPS software, Brownsville is about 25 deg. 56 min. lat. and Key West is 24 deg. 34 min. lat. So if we are talking about the contiguous 48 states, then FL gets the prize. Miami is about 24 deg. 46 min. which makes it even slightly south of Brownsville.

I think I'll pass on Antarctica for a winter location. Low deserts of AZ ain't bad, nor is the central to southern coastal region of CA.

Scott gets tdy's prize pupil award for Geography. Southermost point of the 50 United States(not possessions or territories) is indeed in Hawaii. Northern most of the contiguous is located in Minnasota just for a little tid-bit of useless information(some reservation on an island in the middle of a lake)

Bonus question: Where in the contiguous US do you have to pass through another country by paved highways to get to this little piece of a state in the US?

Minnesota, but you can get there by boat in the summer or drive across the lake in the winter.
