I seen this little bus (20-22') and just had to have it. It was converted several years back. I intended to redo it using the Grey Hound decals and Logos. Time is running out for, me but I guess we will see how far I get. It has a 350 Chev engine and turbo tranny, I have added power brakes, updated steering and added new dash, fun little project. Can you guess what it is? Take a guess. Picture 1 Picture 2 Picture 3 Picture 4 Picture 5 Picture 6 Picture 7 Picture 8 Picture 9 |

Dunno what it is but it looks real cute. Possibly a GM? Looks like it should be on the set of "Who framed Roger Rabbit" in Toon-Town. Great project, thanks for sharing. Peter. |

When I first seen the pictures I couldn't stop laughing, it is cute. So I bought it. On the destination glass we are going to have " HONEY I SHRUNK THE BUS" |

Hi Larry, It looks to me like the International Metro my dad had in the mid '50s in southern California. He sold it to a surfer who converted it to camp in on the beaches and carry his surfboards. I built my first camper in 1962 on the back of a '55 Chev pickup while a senior in high school from the inspiration of the surfer. I still have pictures of that camper but don't have a scanner to be able to post them. Brings back old memories. Thanks for sharing even if I am wrong about the Metro identification. Thanks, Sam Sperbeck La Crescent, MN |

It's an ACF-Brill body built especially for a Willy's chassis! Used as a jitney in Atlantic City. Only a handful built. |

It was used in Knoxville as a shuttle bus. It later was used by a meat store delivery, for several years then it was converted to a camper. It is a 1947 Willys, Paul got it right within the first few minutes, and the rest of you were right there, very good. You are the only ones whoever seen it, come anywhere near. Sometime back someone posted a picture of one on here. That was before I purchased this one. |

I saw a small Blue Bird today, some 56 years the Willys junior, that from the front and the side looks much like it, except for the curved rear...it must have been only 20 feet or so in length.... being used as a shuttle in El Paso. Small world.. what is the old saying?...the more things change, the more they stay the same. RCB '64 Crown HWC |

Or...how about an old Metropolitian possibly made by Studabaker (SP) Almost looks like the older larger in town US Mail trucks. |

Buddy of mine had a Nash Metropolitain in high school, I can't believe I actually rode around in what passes for a rear seat in it, I think it was actually the luggage tray! Cool car, I think it was Nash's answer to the Beetle. Brian |

There is one here converted to run on Electrics. It has an Aircraft starter mated to Pinto 5-speed, other than the fact that the dammned thing has GC105 batteries everywhere, It's a basic metropolitan. It's for sale too. HEY! There's Two Dog's Belly Car!!! Gary |

The Nash Metropoloitan was designed and built in conjunction with Austin of England. It was for the GIs who were stationed overseas in Europe, mainly England, so they felt at home with the US styling and the car was small enough so as to be convenient in the English towns and villages where most of the military lived. Getting a whole bunch of 1959 Plymouth Sports Suburbans into an English town center car park was not an easy thing to do on a busy Saturday morning, I can tell you. Not only that, but it made it difficult for me to get my 1959 Chevy Parkwood in there with them too....... LOL. Peter. |

The Nash Metropolitan shared most of its running gear with the Austin A-40. The 72 cid OHV four was a new design with the new postwar A-40 Devon (4-door) and Dorset (2-door), and was a nice smooth running engine. Its biggest shortcoming was its propensity to burn exhaust valves. I still have an A-40 that I drove as a teenager. It sits in the corner of the garage gathering dust. /image{picname} |

Y'know I thought I remembered that there was something foreign about the engine & tranny in my buddy's Metropolitan...all foreign as it turns out. Still think it was an attempt to follow on the heels of the beetle's success. It never ceases to amaze me that amongst the public at large, if, let say, I mentioned a Nash Metropolitan... From most people I'd get a blank stare...while some might barely recognize a picture of one as something familiar... Here I am treated to not one, but two dissertations on the history of the Metropolitan. I just LOVE that...my kind of people... Brian |

Looks an awfully lot like the 50 Morris Minor I used to drive. As I recall, the Metropolitan was a single seater, not a two seater. Richard |

The Metropolitan had two seats for driver and passenger up front...I don't know that you could call them bucket seats though...and anyone small enough and insane enough (me) could ride behind the front seats in what I believe is the package tray/storage area. Technically, its a two seater. Brian |

I guess that is what I meant. Two seats in the Morris Minor. One front and one rear that would each hold two people for a total of four. Richard |
