Hello all, I believe that i have a leak in my power steering pump on my 8v71. It sits just above the compressor and belches out ATF from the top when I turn it on. Well, it started when I turned it on and now it seems to happen much more. Is this normal? The top port seems to be designed to be open, without any threads. Any ideas? Eric 4106 |

Could this be the pressure relief valve cap that is held in place by a roll pin? There is a 30 cent 'o'ring that occasionally fails. It is easily replaced and the spring pressure under the cap is not that great. It can be held down with a screwdriver while installing the roll pin. Access while on the engine would be the only concern. I had to buy 10 of them as a package, so if you need one, I can put one in an envelope and mail it to you. I don't have any need for 9 spares. Eric, I'm sorry that I didn't see this sooner. You've lost the filler cap/dipstick for the reservoir, it's a compression type plug... The plug fits easily into the smooth bore hole, you turn a knob on top of the cap and it then compresses a rubber piece sandwiched between pieces of metal. The rubber squeezes against the bore, and that is what holds it in place. The "top port" is definitely not meant to be open, and without the dipstick you could be way overfilled, it would spit that out as the fluid gets hot and expands... Buy the dipstick and fill the reservoir to the correct level and you should be okay, but do it soon before the pump ingests any more dirt than it already has. Brian |
