Hi all Ok - Here's a little "sneak preview" of my RTS Conversion Project paint Job (Remember it's not Finished yet) needs graphics A little background first - the RTS II transit bus was the follow-on project for most of the engineers that developed the GMC Motorhome - The RTS is a 35' or 40' foot long and 96" or 102" wide - almost all Stainless Steel & FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic) covered - 5' sections - Monocoque construction - rear engine (D/D) Detroit Diesel (350 HP / 1000 ftlbs torque) pusher with a three speed overdrive / lockup automatic Allison V-Drive transmission. With my new 4.10 rear end it cruises at 72mph & 1950 RPMs (D/D sweet spot) with a top speed of almost 80 mph and hopefully 9-10 MPG. The RTS is better known to most as the Hertz or Avis shuttle or the Disney World Bus. Well it took just over 3 months to finally get my RTS back from the Volusia County prison - I still need to put on the 2" metallic burgundy stripes and my signature 3- Dolphin graphics to set off the tri- color paint scheme (Light pewter with very dark pewter ground effects and fenders plus satin black windows and front trim) 35 foot 102" RTS - approx 750 sq ft of paint surface ?? 3 gals - PPG Omni expoxy primer (MP170 - MP175 - MP282) 5 qts - PPG Omni MP180 Sealer 4 gals - PPG Omni MBC Acrylic Basecoat (Light Pewter) 1 gal - PPG Omni MBC Acrylic Basecoat (Dark Pewter) 5 gals - PPG Omni MC161 High Solids Urethane Clear Plus MX193 Flex add (fenders/bumpers) MX194 Fisheye preventer $1200 approx in paint $2150 labor ----- $3350 I spent a couple of .hundred hours .closing off the rear entrance .mounting the R&M door .prepping / sanding / getting the bus ready for paint .went thru 300 sanding disks .a bunch of Duraglass body filler & USC Thin Ice finishing putty .blew out 2 harbor freight dual action sanders .worked my straight line sander way too hard .worked my craftsman 4 HP compressor overtime and a half .and did it all in the heat of the Florida Summer http://community.webshots.com/scripts/editPhotos.fcgi?action=showMyPhoto&albumID=53316939&photoID=102724170&security=CuctXw or http://community.webshots.com/scripts/editPhotos.fcgi?action=viewall&albumID=53316939 or http://community.webshots.com/ ----> find a member ---> type--> hawk_ii |

Nice documentation, like the door, rear door cover, and would like to see the finished 360 degree pics. Thanks for persevering to get the URL right, just about gave up . . .the last one worked. |

Pretty color, Pete. For you guys that aren't aware of it, finding a 35', 102" RTS is hard to do, especially when you throw in the 6V92TA. Pete got this one in California and drove it back to Florida. --Geoff '82 RTS CA |

The MBTA (Boston) uses mostly RTS's, & many have (rear door) lifts. However, I wouldn't want to buy one of them; judging by the number I see belching black & blue smoke, and with loose or missing panels, their maintainence isn't spectacular. |
