Darrell
Try your local truck stop. I'm sure they will stock something for you as 22.5 is a commom size for trucks.

United Pacific sells several types, stainless steel and plastic. Stay away from the plastic, while nice looking, they have a tendency to come off and you lose them rather easily. The stainless steel jobbies mount up using every other lug nut to hold them in place, cost under $100.

I bought mine from Eagle Interior Accents in Okie City, 405-495-1899 ask for Randy, they ship UPS nationwide.

I'm sure you can find lots of places closer to home, but here is where I bought mine.

Thanks

I just got mine, first experience with Al wheels (Which I don't like at all) and mine don't cover the rear hub, just the end of the hub.

My question is how do I get them off to change the wheel. They do not attach by lug nuts.

Gus the covers are using the lug nuts on the wheel and they are every other one. If you have the lug cover caps they just pop off and you will see that!!

A few months back I was looking at a a set of wheel covers. Then I saw a few post on here about the downside of covers, that they may hide any problems going on with the wheels. Do you guys feel any of these concerns a validated or maybe just a little to cautious? thanks, mike

Mike they will hid some problems however if preventive maintiance is followed you will find the problem area before it becomes a disaster. Trails of rust from a lug nut means it is not tight. remove lugs nuts, clean and redo. Always check your lugs on a regular basis. Pop the lug nut cover and you can just about see all.

ome of the wheel covers look great however there are some down sides to them. they do not allow the brake drum to cool properly this as we all know is what allows the brake to work. this high retained heat by the drum not only affects the stopping of the brakes it also glazes the brake shoe which causes more build up in the drum. this heat will then crack the brake shoestoo the point where pieces of the shoe will break off. this is bad enough if it falls clear of the other parts and does not become wedged between the remaining part of the shoe and the drum which will cause that wheel to apply braking even to the point of skidding the wheel. this is bad enough on a rear wheel but on the front , well you have all seen thouse streaks of rubber on the road of only one tire these are mostly the result of this. just figure it out if it will happen to you or the other guy.

I think we are talking about two different things. Darrell's post was about hub covers for aluminum wheels.

Some of you guys seem to be referring to wheel covers or wheel simulators for use with steel wheels. Those can indeed hide potential problems. I don't think that's the case with hub covers.

Gomer,

I don't have wheel covers, I have Alcoa wheels. The rear hub covers are only about an inch thick and cover only the very end of the rear hubs so I don't see any way they can be held on by lug nuts? To do that there would have to be some kind of spider to the lug bolts?

I have the chrome covers that cover only the end of the hub and the axle flange. They are held on by the axle flange nuts. I have to align all of the nuts so the flat is outward and then the cover will snap on. Even one nut not "parallel" will prevent the cover from going on.

Jim,

This sounds like what I have.

Now, how do I remove these things??

I am greatly motivated to throw them away!!

Did I mention I don't like Al wheels?? Actually the only thing I don't like is the tiny holes which make it almost impossible to access valve stems with pressure sensors.

There is no substitute for good white, straight painted wheels!

Gus,

You should be able to just pull them off. I have some installed on my old fire truck and they're just held on by 4 springloaded clips.

Oh, and if you want to get rid of those aluminum wheels, I've got some steel wheels laying around here I'll trade ya for.

Bob,

Sorry about not responding, was out of pocket a couple of days.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. I figured some kind of tool was required because they don't look easy to remove to me.

I would gladly trade those #@^&**((%$#@ Al wheels for good, straight steel wheels anytime.

No rusty or bent wheels though.

However, I keep my tires so whoever wants these wheels has to change out the tires!!

I assume there are only four of them but I haven't really looked.

I believe the wheels in question are 22.5s. I can't use them as I'm running 24.5s on my Buff. So, Gomer, you're off the hook......they're all yours. ;-)

Yep, they are 22.5s and 12:00 tires so the steel wheels have to be for 12:00s also!

You guys have no need to duke it out since all my travels are west of Arkansas or to the NE.

You may think I'm kidding but I'm not, I'll get rid of those Alcoa wheels the first good offer I get. My only real complaint is the tiny holes. Surely they could have been made big enough to get a hand through them??
