Jim, A 3/8's Grade 8 chain has a working load capacity of 7100#'s on a straight pull. Use it on a 45 degree pull and the capacity drops to 5000#'s. This means that if you can chain straigt up and down, a single 3/8's chain on each side will allow a combined 14200# working load. If you have to chain on an angle, the working load of the chain is reduced by the angle. Therefore you may need 2 3/8" or a 1/2" chain. Joel |

A piece of 3/8 chain will do just fine. Just don't put any air to your tag axle. |

Hey Jim, I have those chains on a shelf in the battery bay on my 96A3, as I recall they are three links long and they might be 7/16". I'll try to go out in the AM and measure link diameter and chain length size for you. Brian |

thanks brian..... i remember seeing something like that in a friends bus... the links were odd-sized.... they have to be. in order to fit over the hooks....i wonder if a piece of flat bar steel with slots cut in each end would work aslo... maybe 1/2" stock???? |

Jim, I'm glad I went out to look... Froze my a**, but got you this: Length of chain is 11.5" First link is 3" long every other link is 2 3/8" long each link is 7/16 diameter I believe there are 5 regular links and the one long one, but I forgot to write that down, defintely more than the three links I mentioned before. It is not grade 8 chain, and I work with grade 8 chain all the time. Brian |

" , Funny stoty, When I bought the bus and was looking throught every thing I bought. I saw these chains and said to my self who cut up the tire chains. So I threw them in the garage on their way to the garbage.(what good are 11.5" chains?). Then I took a visit to Luke's, It was then I saw all those tags held up by little short chains . When I got home I put those chains back on the self in the battery box. |
