my defroster has never worked properly as the bus temp never gets to more than 170 i did find that one of the blower motors is bad but our dear buddy luke wants $100 to replace it and the cage. my thought is why cant i rig a presto hot air popcorn maker to the defroster tubes and run it off the inverter? would this work or be too hot? am i a nut? the presto people say it has been tested to run 1000 hours straight without blowing up. |

tom I believe that is for a new blower and cage. It would be a fair price for it and then it would be an exact fit. If you wanted to take the old motor apaert and replace the bearings and brushes it can be done without a lot of problems. I rebuilt mine and found the bearings at Miller mearings and the brushes at a tool repair shop. about 50. plus time. My thoughts tho. Gomer |

Depends on what way you point it. If you point it down, it could go forever without blowing up. Sorry, I just couldn't resist, you walked into that one with your eyes wide open! |

Alot of the VW guys use hair dryers, even many of the electrical car conversion guys. They use them for heating and for defrosting.... Our windows are waaayyyy bigger though, so Im not sure how well one would work??? Maybe put a couple in with ducting around the edges of the entire window??? Oh, and YES you are nutz! That's why you even got into this hobby to begin with! Afterall, who in their right mind would go out and buy an old bus??? |

To answer Teresa, a whole bunch of us! That aside, I wouldn't use a really hot electric heater on a cold windshield, because of the real possibility of cracking due to the large temperature difference over a large windshield? G |

thomas, why isn't the coach running up to temp? If a proper defroster motor is beyond reach, then get a regular dash mounted fan to help. Every truck supply/vendor/dealer has those caged 4 blade fans for sale in both 12 and 24 volt. Mount it so it can do both the windshield in the cold and blow at you in the hot. And, a large fan from the big box store will do the same, if you like. happy coaching! buswarrior |

Rain-X works just as good on the inside of the windshield as it does on the outside - FWIW |
