What is the normal legal height for our conversions? I know most all bridges are a minumum of 13'6" but just the other day I sat in a MCI Renassance (sp) day coach and on the dash it said it was 13'8". I know from our friends H3 and the H3 we just purchased which both have the low profile roof airs, it comes in at 13'4" which is close to what I thought was legal. Why would MCI make one so tall if it won't go under those 13'6" bridges? Ace |

"Legal" height varies by state. Most states are either 13'6" or 14'. I don't believe that MCI makes a coach above 13'6", so whatever you saw was probably modified to that height (roof raise, or maybe a satellite dish or something else on the roof). My Neoplan is 13'4" with the satellite dish. We've had to go around two or three low overpasses in the last three years. -Sean |

The Renaissance can raise or lower 4 inches from normal ride height. That was probably a placard to cover maximum height: You have just come over a high RR crossing with the suspension raised 4 inches and now face an overpass with a 13'6" clearance. I suspect they want you to remember to lower the suspension again. Also, a dash placard, according to the trucker I bought my bus from, is for height you can pass under with no caution. My dash placard is for 12'6" but the bus is actually foot shorter than that. |
