Yes, it is teflon coating. Truck radiator shops can boil out your fuel tank and apply the teflon coating.

also...there is a product at auto supply that you mix the two parts together in your hand and put it on the outside of the tank,MADE for gas and diesel tanks

TD we used that it is called BJ Weld and worked great but it is not a fix that will last a very long time .the stuff that they mix and pour into the tank like fiber glass res mixture the say is much better just wondering if any one has first hand experence with it and how costly is it as to having a new tank built? thanks mel 4104

I know what J B WELD is...this stuff I'm talking about looks like clay...a black strip&a white strip..mix them together till it's gray...
if you plan on haveing the bus for a LONG time, take the tank out & go to a welding shop & get an estimate on haveing it duplicated in 16 ga. stainless..would guess 500.00

I know the stuff you are talking about Two D.

It really is tough, you just have to be sure to mix it together good.

The surface of the tank needs to be SUPER clean and roughing it up with sand paper probably wouldn't hurt either.

If the tank has rusted through, or if the tank flexes a lot, it is hard to say how long the patch will hold... but probably at least a couple of years

Might want to check with the aviation people , i remember them talking about a product that was poured into the gas tanks that sealed them, they said it worked well, but i dont know anymore about it.

We've shloshed diesel fuel tanks with Pliobond, the kind that requires thinner to clean up, not the water based kind.

It does not dissolve in diesel fuel after it is allowed to dry. We did this in a new tank, so there was no old fuel in the tank. It would probably help to use a couple of small solvent rinses inside to carry off the fuel.

You would want to paint the outside of the tank with the same thing to prevent rust from working from the outside.

We got the tip from someone who did this with small aircraft tanks to make sure that they wouldn't leak.

This is an outside job only, as the fumes are both an explosion and inhalation hazard. It seemed to take about three days in cool weather to dry the inside Pliobond (decreased fumes).

For what it's worth.

The product dos perros is talking about is marketed under the Prestone name. (others as well) Yeah, the antifreeze people. I've used it several times with excellent results. Clean around the leak thoroughly with methyl ethyl ketone or brake parts cleaner. Scuff it with a 24 grit wheel, then follow the instructions. My $1.00 yard sale, 6 gal. boat tank was used and abused with both gas and diesel for almost four years before it rusted through in another area so badly it had to be scrapped. I find JB Weld too brittle for this type of application. A cheap, effective $5 buck fix. Happy *** **** ...JJ
