Been a few since I did mine. Can't remember where to find the Peterbuilt parts list to install a great working door handle arrangement that our friend Fred has been so kind as to share with us in the past. Need it for the latest project I'm doing and a friends Prevost out west. My last one works so good and lasted so long I haven't a clue as to what I used. Are you out there Fred? (or anybody that knows where to find the parts list?) Larry C |

You are better off going to a truck wrecking yard and buying everything you need, perhaps the whole door for the parts, than to try to follow the incomplete directions and parts list posted on Tom's website. --Geoff '82 RTS CA |

According to FF's directions, you need to use the LH door handle to make things work right, so according to Geoff's suggestion, buy both doors. FWIW. Dale PS If you get a key kit for the lock, get the one that fits the ignition, door, glove box, etc. so one key fits all. |

You use a driver's side handle if you want the handle above the latch on the bus door. You are better off getting a used door (and striker) so you can see how the thing goes together and you have all the parts. Before I knew better I printed out FF's "instructions" and took them to a Peterbilt dealer-- this is not a "kit"--it was all very confusing for both of us, printing out the parts page helped a little-- some numbers are Peterbilt, some are Kenworth(?), but in any case the Peterbilt dealer did not have all the parts and after waiting a couple of weeks for a backorder I cancelled the order and paid the 20% restocking fee. And it wasn't cheap. Later I figured out the Peterbilt door handle mechanism will only work on a hollow door, not the R&M fiberglass door like I bought for my RTS. A big waste of time. --Geoff '82 RTS CA |

Hey Chris Christensen How old are you and where are you from originally? I used to know somebody by that name a long time ago and far away and am wondering if it is you. |

FWIW...when I decided to make a one piece door for my Eagle I visited a big truck junk yard and they were more than glad to sell me the complete set up from a wrecked Freightliner for fifteen bucks. I particulary like to deal with the smaller ones that we have scattered across the Southeast... have found lots of goodies at these yards. |

Hey Mr. Maxwell. How's things in No. CA. It's probably cold even there right about now. Tonight in Eagle Idaho suppose to be 8 degrees. Hard to keep the Adrenalin going in THAT weather. Sure miss the Western Bus Nuts rallys. We are really going to try to make one this year. It's hard when we are three states away and still working. Yes we are still working !!! But like you said, I was retired once, for about 7 days. Take care Chip. |
