i ordered 1 from ronthebusnut.... ought to have it tuesday or wednesday..... i never have been able to get the cable freed up on the "man show' 5105.... all the linkage and even the high idle clyinder are rust-frozen..... the original high idle was pretty neat (for its time).. it used a toggle switch to operate an air solenoid, that controlled an air cylinder, that pushed the throttle cable enough to make the engine idle faster.....i'm going to use the same solenoid and air supply to create a high idle system also... just set the air pressure high enough to get 1000 rpm's... then use a double check valve to tee it into the system.... i'll also make a safety to keep the high from working unless the trans is in neutral....(microswitch on the gearshift linkage) |

welp......some of you will get a good laugh out of this...I spent ALL day...drove over 100 miles, trying to get an inspection sticker...yep...funny...nobody would inspect it...r.v. places....car places..truck places...boy...that sure was a waste of a day..car places said it needed to go to a truck place, truck place said it didn't need a d.o.t. inspection...(BUT) they only did D.O.T. inspections... |

opinion::::: i think its better to get the DOT... instead of the regular car sticker... reason::: in case you're involved in an accident, the DOT is a stringent inspection.... ive seen rv's come in the park here with DOT's.... and some with regular state inspections....it's gonna be fun to get the '54 model gm coach inspected.... it doesnt have seat belts... they weren't required... and the air system doesn't park... |

Well Two Dogs, So what is it titled as? If the title says its a bus then take it to Commercial, if it says it's an RV, then take it there. Failing all this, go to the MVD and ask them where you should take it, ignore all detrimental comments...... LOL. Maybe they will make an appointment for you. Peter. |

went to d.p.s. they were all gone for the day...it's titled as a motorhome...r.v. places REFUSED....all they wanted...was for me to leave, car places REFUSED,said they did not know how to inspect it,that they didn't know anything about air brakes...regular inspection is 12.50(not bad)...d.o.t. inspection is 60.00 |

Then report the issue to the MVD and get them to sort it out or park in the RV inspection line and refuse to move. When the cop arrives tell him that they refuse to inspect your RV. Peter. |

So far as a Texan, I have found that you have to have it inspected, BEFORE they will talk to you at title and registration. If you go there first, and they say get it inspected, just ask where? Armed with that, THEN use Peters advice. |

Try a major truckstop that has a garage, such as PETROL, T/A. You will more than likly have to pay for a DOT inspection as that is what they do. John 4104 |

I don't think TX will accept the DOT inspection for a private registration. Still need that little sticker and the papers that go with it. Online they say the DOT is $50, I would not waste that if it is not allowed. |

you can get a DOT on a pickup.... in fact, if you read the requirements, a private person driving a welding truck (his own) is required to have the truck inspected with an annual DOT inspection.... reason?? he's carrying hazardous materials.... oxygen.. acetelyne... welding rods... etc...kinda nitpicking, but....the Texas DPS used to monitor all the inspection stations... an oficer would come around monthly and check the paperwork and take the official copy with him... now that duty has been farmed out to a private concern...no longer does a dps officer come by... someone hired by the dps does....go by west texas peterbilt in amarillo and get a sticker..... |

Well then "lean" on them more! Get an "I will not inspect RV's" in writing, then watch them get their inspection authority pulled. Get the license plate people to tell YOU where to go get it inspected, in writing. EMail Austin and ask them what to do to get their silly inspection. Want an email address for the Gov office? Rock the boat hell, I like to kick the freaking slats out the sides of it. Besides getting the job done, it makes it lots easier the next time you have a problem, you become a known troublemaker to be fixed up at any cost. I have had two of their silly inspections so far, a farce as far as I can see, getting a mechanic to check your insurance card. Jeez! Give em hell! Lets you and them fight! |

Jim back to the question, go to a truck yard and get used tredle and a new app. valve and slave cyl. at the local truck parts supply what engine do you have ? if it is a DD you can get a kit that will fit on top of the gov. to hold the slave . you will need a 50 ft. roll of 2/8 air line [dot approved] and fittings. you get the air from the front air tank [suspension tank]. it can be in and working in a day and that includes time to get the parts and a few time off's. if you need more help just e=mail me. mel 4104 |

don and have talked about that.... this 5105 doesnt even have the 3 light cluster.... it only has side marker lighs... either the convertor didn't put them on or there never were any.... no bolt holes or wires....intellegence(don) told me it might be because it was a transit coach ad not a road coach.... makes sense to me..... |
