My 6V71 is having some problems. Searching for a new head, I ran across a 6V92. What is involved in changing to a 6V92.

Sorry I have V's on the brain. It is the original engine. I have a bent rod and probably 2-3 burnt valves(it came with an addiction to starting fluid and intervention just keeps me in one place). I was going to switch to a 4 valve head and in checking around, one of the parts guys told me I would be better off switching to a 6V92, which he happened to have. He said I would have more power and better milage. Sounds good, but I am looking at my 8th back surgery and am going to be paying a mechanic for this one. I gotta get it on the road reasonably soon. Any suggestions?

If you consider doing this, I would have someone do it that has done several of the change overs before. May seem to be more expensive initially, but probably will be better off in the end as time involved and having it done right. Should look at NIMCO for the engine as they already have 6v92 left hands ready to run...been there, they have scores of them. Also should change trans to v730. This is a BIG project, even for experienced. Is your coach worth this expense and effort. 6-71 parts are available everywhere in country; people on the board will be glad to help you with information to get yours fixed no matter how you decide to proceed.

Unless the 692 will bolt up to the Spicer 4 speed, don't even think of doing a conversion like this if you have a short time frame.

The driveline angle is different on the 04 and earlier from the 06 and later. You have to do some major surgery to the bus and transplant a number of items from a donor coach to do it right.
