I've an MCI-7 with a tired engine (8v71 natural) and a freshly rebuilt 8v71T out of a sidewinder. I have perused the archives for hours trying to find answers, but can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Could someone who has done it before tell me what is entailed and what parts I'll need to convert the LH (?) sidewinder engine over to RH (?) rotation for my T powered MCI? I read one post where someone claimed that the oil holes in the cranks for the rod bearings were in different places with regard to the rotation of the crank. This shouldn't be true, nor should it make any difference, as the bearing is riding on a cushion of oil all the time. Any help from someone who has had experience?

Also, I keep seeing references to "the book"......is there a repair manual out there that is better than others?

Detroit diesel makes their own service manual.... you can find them on ebay.... but by the time you pay shipping... its prolly just as cheap to get 1 from your friendly neighborhood detroit dealer.... i paid $57 for a manual on a 671....from DD... i also just bought an old (1950) 671 manual on ebay for $8.50...."da book" is slang for the service manual for your particular coach....

Thanks Jim,
Does the gear train have to be changed from one end of the engine to the other, or just reconfigured on that end? Should I use cams out of the old 8-71 naturally aspirated, or are the turbo cams specific?

Here I am! I was watching Geraldo for the "Inside Scoop". Okay, switching roatations on an engine is not easy-- you are practically rebuilding it to get what you need. You have to change the cams and half the gear train, change the oil pump, and switch everything else to match your oil engine. Plus you are changing from a Natural to a Turbo so you have additional problems to deal with that I am not going to get into here. Personally, I would just rebuild your old engine and sell the the LH engine-- or maybe just use the heads off the turbo engine to save a few bucks.
