Fred, What size rear cans do you have on your VL? I can't find an indication in my shop manual here at the office other than a part number. I am purchasing parts to install spring brakes to replace the shaft brake and can't figure out if I need 30/30 or 40/40 etc. Thanks Tim |

I will have to go take a look, we replaced the rear end (guess 3.78) as unsuitable for a modern 4 stroke . A truck 2.93 is installed ,(plus .83 in OD) but the old VL rear is in the shed. Will answer Sunday, after I take a look. Also have Da Book, will look in it. FF |

I don't know what they used new I know I see a lot of 20/20 on the Flx could be for room or to keep from ripping the mounts off good luck |

Thanks Luvrbus. Were those Flx's by chance the older and smaller starliners etc? The mount is actually pretty interesting...they do not have any kind of mount welded to the axle tube but rather the mount is integrated into the same housing that holds the S-cam shaft and is simply bolted to the spider. The upside is if you need to rotate the spider no welding is required. I don't know if this applies to all Flx's or just the Flxliner (Message edited by timb on April 08, 2011) |

By changing the rear I meant just that , the FLX was yanked and a 2.93 truck tear flipped and installed. Anyone need a FLX rear , no drop box required? It has a 23,000lb rating plenty for the weight of a FLX and modern so should handle the 1200ft lbs as well as the Jakes or retarder torque. The strange FLX brake mounting setup was carved off the FLX rear and installed in the cleaned up truck rear.It is all that will fit. MCI 9 air bags were added to allow on site leveling , or for a torsilastic failure. If we replaced the air tanks with much larger ones , we might get the coach to jump California Mexican style. THIS WEEK !! Engine noise (we hope!!) FF |

Good luck Fred You sure have put a lot into this engine conversion. Hope it works out after all this. Somebody must have said it can't be done so you proved them wrong. That is what usually motivates us busnuts to do these things. Bill |
