Ron,
My Crown frame rails don't actually "stop" behind the springs, but the passenger side does bump up a few inches to clear the fuel tank... it looks like they welded a 3/8" thick plate on the end of the rail, and then continued to the rear with an "extension" rail that is a bit above floor level so it clears the tank, and this extends almost all the way to the rear where the bumper hooks to it.

A hitch goes on them just fine.. If yours doesn't do this (perhaps because you have the rear storage compartment and I never did) perhaps you can extend the frame yourself using the same idea of a plate as the connector to join the new and old rails. Heavy steel channel and a big arc welder....

At the rear of the bus you'd want to drop down with some angle supports to the hitch connection. Here's some photos of how the back of mine looks... don't know if it will help but they might. I'm adding a storage compartment on the passenger side, at the very rear, so the photos were easy to take today...

What you're seeing is my 80 gallon waste tank inside there between the rails. My hitch will be welded underneath it's rear end in about a week...

Cheers

Hi Ron
I to have a crown that I want to put a trailer hitch on but you hav e to be careful cause unless you have a settup like gary the structure is the only thing holding the back 8 feet or so of the bus so the tongue weight will have to be kept to a minimum I plan to weld in some support beams similar to gary but I want to keep some of the storage.e-mail me and I will send you some pics.

Hello Ron and welcome to Crown Madness. My '74 10-wheeler (VIN 37317) frame stops just behind the rear drivers also and I want to pull a heavy toad or an equipment trailer.

Soooos...the plan right now is too extend then drop the frame rails to the rear bumper. This will allow me to install a second factory 100 gallon fuel tank behind the rears, plus have room for ....

.....a second large battery bank. Diesel electric coach with no propane. If the weights and measures turn out correctly, will also have space and capacity to mount....

....the planned diesel APU behind the drivers. Will design the frame extension to be somewhat flexible with turnbuckles to push up on the rear 8 feet of the unsuported body.

Then will tie it all into the rear bumper with the strength to mount a large ball or perhaps a pintal hitch along with the required trailer air brake lines. CROWNS FOREVER!!! :) :)

Forgot to says the easy way to sees if your Crown has the full length frame or not is to look for that back rear trunk double door.

If your Crown has a rear trunk, then the frame stops just behind the rear wheels. If the bus does NOT have a rear trunk, then...

...the frame MAY run all the way to the rear bumper like Gary's. Hope this helps you out a little. CROWNS FOREVER
