I have 8 alcoa 24.5 rims, that I don't need.

I just had a phone call asking how much would I take for them.
They definitely need re-polishing, but otherwise in good condition.

I have no idea what they are worth...NO tires.
Could some of you bus nuts clue me in ?

I also have eight 11R 24-5 polished Alcoas with new tires. Six with 3,000 miles and two with about 6,000 miles still on DML. If someone wanted to drive to WV, we could get a tire shop to come here and swap your old ones for these. Swap would probably cost about $600. $50 an hour and I guess six or eight hours for the tire shop to do the exchange.

Make me an offer. Must be done relatively quick as I do not know when she will be sold to the salvage company by the insurance company. Also, complete set of awnings, Webasto furnace and King cruise control.

It seems from my experiences that used Alcoas are usually traded in the $150 each range.

Richard - I live in Wash,DC. I have a 1982 MCI-9. I do need new tires, however I am not sure if the 24.5"s will work on my coach. Where in West Virginia do you live.

Does anybody know if the 24.5's with 11R's will workn my coach??

Must take the tires and Alcoa rims. Must also install new studs (longer) to mount them up. I am assuming the tire service company could install the studs.

I have a hydraulic press to install them that could be used if necessary. I also have air but no 3/4 inch impact wrench nor the jack required. I have parking space and power available.

I am near I-77, halfway between Charleston and Parkersburg.

Down the posts somewhere are a couple I've read that tie in here. First is that Richard has been paid 'more' that he could have received from a buyer for Driving Miss Lazy after the disastrous loss of his love.

Another, by I@n, list him as one of the most frequent posters on this board. Kind of makes him a leader, I would think.

Now we are being offered several expensive parts from the damaged but already sold bus. Man that Webasto is inviting! And I have to hurry because the insurance company (new owner) will soon sell it a salvage company.

I don't quite know why, but something seems really unsettling about this. Does Progressive or any other insurance company monitor this board? If so, are all our rates likely to rise?

Can you spell 'insurance fraud'? 'Accomplice'? Or is this the 'Robin Hood' philsophy?

I beg your pardon. I specifically asked the adjuster if it was permissible to remove these items, specifically including the genset, and he told me no problem, especially since they could not compensate me for the additional upgrades that were made.

I itemized over $100,000 in upgrades, interest and expenses, over and above the actual purchase price of the bus, and for all practical purposes, that is all money down the tubes.

The bus has NOT been offered to a salvage company yet and NO potential buyer (Salvage Company) has inspected the bus to determine scrap value. Therefore there is no fraud. He also indicated the salvage company is only buying it for the scrap value, since it can not legally be put back on the road due to the total loss by fire.

I can assure you that for a few hundred bucks I would not take any chances of doing something illegal. That is pocket change in comparison to the actual monetary loss I suffered.

The adjuster also indicated that it could possibly cost a few thousand dollars for a wrecker to get the bus out of the driveway (due to extremely limited space) and to the salvage yard. He noted that the salvage company deducts any expenses for the recovery of the vehicle from the basic offer for the vehicle.

Since I was able to get the bus running I was able to drive it to my shop where there will be no problem loading it onto a flat bed. In fact no wrecker is actually required and it could even be driven to the salvage yard. This savings to the insurance company more than offsets any monetary gain I might receive from the sale of the items and he is taking that into consideration. There is no way a wrecker driver would have tried to get the vehicle drivable in order to move it.

And so now you know “the rest of the story”.

Well put Richard. I went through the same thing with Progressive. Anything beyond the basics that must be there with the vehicle can be removed or swapped out. I had a custom motorcycle that was totaled. Their book for the salvage did not have any consideration for the custom parts. I was allowed with their permission to remove the custom parts and put back the original parts before it was sold to salvage. Salvage made out well since some of the customparts had some damage and the original parts had only been stored.

I went thru the same thing as Richard, six months of haggle and bargain, and we could just not get together. Finally in the middle of the night I jumped up in bed and thought "it they say those items are worthless, how about if I just remove them?" They said sure, help yourself, and I actually sold the stuff for more than the difference we were previously haggling over. Gotta think weird to deal with insurance companies.
