Does anybody know of a Web Site that compares all of the Road Service Plans? I've just switched from Camping Worlds to Allstate. |

Road service plans seem to be a resellers scam dream. Usually your primary insurance company will include towing insurance, calling the same 800 number for assistance, for only a very few dollars (USAA charge was only $13 a year). The reseller does not have to tell you this, nor will he volunteer it. Coverage reads identical to most of the "resellers". Might want to check out your insurance company first. |

I currently have Good Sam on my Grumman. I could have gotten the same coverage for 9.50 from State Farm, who carry the Liability and Comprehensive but I had a 3 yr. non-refundable policy w/ Good Sam when I switched insurance on the bus. When I put the Comprehensive on the Neoplan this Spring, I will get State Farm Road Service for 9.50 and put the other 70.45 in my pocket (that will buy my annual Mexico liability). Difference is, you sometimes have to up-front the bill w/State Farm and submit it for re-imbursement. They once paid full re-imbursement for lo-boying my 32' Holiday Rambler 40 miles to a garage (the premium was only 6 then). |

Coach-Net is one that folks have said a lot of good things about. I was studying this a few weeks ago but haven't acted on it yet. I too would be very interested in the latest viewpoints on ERS's. |

Check your coverage limits with the roadside service offered by your insurance. Usually a $150-200 towing limit. That's what I had when I did not know any better and bought the roadside service with Farmers. $200 does not go very far towing our buses. I have had Good Sam for 3 years now and have nothing but good to say about them. I blew an outside rear tire halfway between Santa Barbara and Pismo beach and all I had to pay for was the tire. They would have put on my spare for free, but I figured I would still need to get the blown one fixed so I opted for a replacement. Good Sam paid for the service call and I paid for the tire. All in all I was back on the road in 75 minutes from the time I called. My MCi would not start one day at my house and instead of fussing with it, I called Good Sam and asked them if they would tow it out of my house to the local Detroit Diesel dealer and they said that as long as I could not drive it they would tow it to the nearest authorized service facility or one of your choosing whichever is closer. No cost. So they towed my bus 30 miles for free. I have had them come out and fix flats for my wife's van and still no charges. It is sure worth the $79/yr. and that covers all your registered vehicles. Jojo |

Good Sam's not only cover all of your vehicles, it covers any vehicle you are driving. I went with Good Sam's after talking to my State Farm agent. By the time I put towing insurance on all of my vehicles the money was getting closer. He also would not commit to how much they would pay, only saying "reasonable" charges. Since my MH must have a wheel lift wrecker and have the drive shaft or axle removed in order to tow I did not feel that "reasonable" charges was enough. |

We had AAA for 50,000 miles thinking we were covered for towing on our 4905. Then thanks to information I got off BNO I called AAA and asked if they would tow our bus. They will not tow buses. We are now with Good Sam on all of our vehicles. Bill Butler |

An excellent point that might be missed is what the towing insurance really does regardless what you choose to pay. Some only tow "out of the roadway" to a service station or such, make sure it is unlimited mileage and cost to where it can be repaired. AAA or Good Sam or whoever is not really doing it of course, just reselling it. Most include free fuel if you run out, tire changes, some roadside services like that. |

My coverage w/State Farm has no $ limit. Reasonable and customary charges is the clause, but they were fully informed of what they were insuring against when they wrote it and took the premium, so, Reasonable and customary is not solely for them to define. As for the others; you can have trouble with them all. I had Coach Net for 3 yrs. until the day I spent 6 hours waiting on their dispatched road service to bring me a new tire from 20 miles away (Les Schwab--which was in stock)--not even an apology from them when I sued them for the total bill from a tire dealer that I called to do the job). Yes, I collected the total bill in small claims court, including the cost of the tire. Good Sam dispatched a derelict Toyota p/u with a 5 ton hydraulic jack, a piece of 2x6 for a pad, and no tire tools to change a flat on my friends 4104. Bottom line, you pay your money and take your chances. |

James I use the FMCA one but would like to know a good one, they left me on the side of 1-10 for 8 hour in sept, and could only get a ladoul( I dont know how to spell it )from 250 miles away. Yet I was 14 miles from Baton Rouge L.A. that have lots of them. But no one would tow for them, 8HOURS wait. John |

I have state farm, cost like $3 or $4 a year. I broke down just outside of Dallas, got in the towed drove 2 miles to a tow yard, I had passed by, the guy towed me to dallas, the bill was $950.00 not counting the damage he did to the coach (whole nother story) any way, I told him the bill was excessive, he said he never had trouble with his bill, I wrote him a check, brought the bill to my agent, state farm also thought it was excessive, so they call him, after their discussion, they wrote me a check for $950.00. as of yet I am satisfied.. I might also say the mechanic shop said it was excessive, he gave me a phone number to call, to get a price, their price was $250.00 to haul it to dallas... !!! YES it was excessive!!!! I guess I just asoon say the rest, $200.00 dollas drive shaft joint and brake drum damage, $300.00 broken shower door (glass), 3 broken floor tiles, yes he did a good job towing it, $300.00 front end work, 1/4 thread worn out on front tires (yes they were brand new, first trip with them)... I only got $200.00 out of him.... the rest I ate!! Yes I can still smile.... O' by the way if you wish to use them it is Fuller's Towing just east of Dallas on I20 Dwight |

John: Same road service, same poor service. It is the only time I have ever used road service for my bus and I immediately started shopping for a new one, since my 3 yr. policy was about to expire. I personally know of good and bad experiences with all of them thru friends of mine. The one I know of that seemed to be best was "RR" or "RRR", which I never see advertised anymore. And, Good Sam does not cover all your vehicles: I had to buy a separate policy on my Neoplan to drive it home from Chicago area to N.CA. when I bought it, even though I had a policy with them on my Grumman |

We are all free to spend any amount we wish with any company we choose for ERS coverage, in the end I believe the Good Sam coverage is the best value! Call the other guys and ask them the following questions: When you dispatch service is it PrePaid? Are all my vehicles covered? Do you cover changing my Big Bus tire's 11R 22.5 / 11R 24.5? If my 40 foot Bus Conversion breaks down with an engine/transmission failure will, and can you tow or carry it to the nearest authorized Detroit/Allison service center even if they are 1200 miles away? Tom, that was my point exactly, and yes mine DOES do all that, and for a fraction of the price you will pay Good Sam. Good Sam does not have even one wrecker or a gallon of diesel, they are just reselling one of the several such services, exactly the same as your insurance company is doing, and if you compare the 800 numbers, in my case it is the SAME NUMBER even that you call. I fully agree that if your insurance company does NOT offer such service, either change you company or buy the overpriced extraa. |

Why get it second hand? Call a local Allstate Insurance company or drop by, and be sure you ask them all the questions Tom pointed out above. |
