The hot outlet must be higher than the cold inlet, and make sure the pressure relief valve is also at the top to release steam first. The other difficulty will be that the heating element should be at the bottom to be most efficient or if it is originally side mounted then I would think it should now be inserted from the new top when the heater is on its side, but it should all but reach the bottom. Peter. |

Sorry, don't think it will work as efficiently as it would if it was standing up the right way. The cold inlet dip tube will now be about 1/3rd of the way up and the hot outlet about 1/3rd down, hence you won't have much water available before the fresh cold takes over. Why not have a stainless steel or other suitable tank made the size you want and install an electric element as per normal. Simple to insulate using Cellotex Super tuff foam board at R-7.2 per inch. Just install the pipe work where you want it along with a pressure relief valve. Peter. |

Jim, You may want to look at different brands of water heaters as 20 gal. units come in various sizes. I just installed one in my MCI-9. I found there was over 4 inches differance between brands. Richard Jones '83 MCI-9 |

Can these be used in an RV application? I have thought about it, but I seem to think there was a reason that it was a No-Go for Mobile use. Gary |

Gary Works fine, you can contact them for advise also. I bought a prevost last week and it will also have one again. I only used the unit when parked, but not required to do so. Recover is almost instant so you really don't need it when moving, you have bus heat. And the price is right. |

Gary, you are thinking about the gas W/H's not being acceptable for mobile use. The reason for this is that to work properly there must be "X" amount of available cubic feet of air in the area for combustion/carbon-dioxide-production. In the real world there are many of these gas fired W/H's in RV's of all types. FWIW Dale |

Actually Dale, I haven't given the subject a lot of research. I just remember a brochure stating not for Mobile/RV use. I had planned to do some more research before blindly accepting this, but I'm just not that far in my conversion. Does anyone have a unit that they reccomend? Gary |

I think there is a smaller Bosch unit that is rated for RV use, don't remember which, but should take minimal research to find it. FWIW. Dale |
