I've just bought a 3751. It was converted but I'm going to gut it and start over. It has two sets of seats that look like they could be original. How do I tell if they are and what could they be worth if they are original? |

Unfortunately, as a general rule, bus seats tend to have very little resale value. Someone here advertized their coach seats in the local paper as theater seats and I think sold them for $25 a pair. Sadly, an all too usual situation is for a converter to have 25 pairs of seats piled up outside with no takers. Brian |

I figured they wouldn't be worth much as a rule but I didn't know if someone might want them to do a restore on an old greyhound. |

NIck !!!! Those seats are worth money $$$$$$. A silversides with the original seats is worth more than anyone Ive ever seen converted. They are rare, because the 3751 was one of the first neat diesel pushers and first to be canidates for conversions, most of them were thrown away 30 years ago. For the "pureists" out there who want everything original they are a rare find. If they are truely the original seats. Good luck Jay Gerlick |

Nick, post pictures of them. Also post a picture of the rear of your bus. I'm trying to remember if those had the big cyclops-like center brake lamp. When I was in drum corps years ago (playing the flugelhorn of all things, back when it was cool because of Chuck Mangione) our group had a pair of old Greyhounds that had those center brake lamps. As that was in a time before I saw the light and became a busnut, I never found out what model of coach they were. |

Yup her got the big center stop light on it, or at least a place for one. I wish I could find one for her but everyone says they're pretty high. As for the pics I'll get some up in the morning I hope. |

Might be able to make one using a traffic signal lens or even a replacement railroad signal lens. If the original light was 7 inches in diameter, you could use a standard sealed 7 inch taillamp. |

The hole I've got to fill is at least 14" I'm guessing and the original said "STOP" across the center of it. |

I don't know if the original lamp lens was actually that large. You'd have to find a picture of an original to be sure. I seem to recall the lamp lens itself being around 7 to 10 inches in diameter with the STOP filter inside. There was a larger "trim" piece around the lamp lens itself, and if that's missing from yours would make the opening much larger. Corrosion of the wiring kept blowing fuses causing the lamp to not work more often than not. I don't know if you can still get 7" sealed school bus brake lamps which have the "STOP" filter in them, but if you could that would make a good 21st century replacement. I remember someone left a container of half-eaten potatoe salad in the back of the bus after one long tour, which left a smell inside that never went away. To this day whenever I see one of those old coaches I remember that smell. |
