Detroit Diesel 8V71 model 4905 with an Allison 3 Speed Auto Transimmion.what type trans comes with a 4905 and what kind of top speed would you get with a 3 speed allision |

a v-730, top speed depends on rear end, would be 64 to 76 depending on how it is set up, and the tire size etc

Of course, the VS2-8 actually came in the 4905 from the factory, and it ACTS like a three speed, often called a three speed in error. |

Yeah, I did to, but it is officially according to Allison, a TWO speed, that is where the two in the vs2 comes from. V730 is often called a four speed for the same mistaken reasons. Assuming you have the manuals for it, it says so in there.
What we call first and second is actually only one speed, the torque converter lockout action feels like a shift. What we call third is actually the second speed, planetary gear set is locked in.
That is why I posted that, in case it was confused, and the post questioned what came in a 4905. |
