Well yesterday I tried to get on and when I clicked for the bbs I got some news group. I hit BACK and tried again and it went to the BBS.

Thinking this was a fluke I did'nt think anything of it but today it happened twice before letting me into the BBS.

I notice that the click definition for the buttons isn't the same as the icons, looks like something might be corrupted.

hmm Has IAN been making some new changes that the DELL doesn't like??? hMMMMMM!

Hiya CDCDCD,

Cory, yesterday, I added our new BNO Community News section and linked it from this bbs. The sidebar on the left, if you view the bulletin board that way, has the new clickable link logo of the new news board.

When you get to BNO Community News, start at the bottom of the page and read upwards. You'll notice that the first 4 messages are from yours truly.

I was, in fact, playing yesterday, without disabling the bbs. I did so, so as not to interrupt our viewers. I had opened the left sidebar in a new window to work on placement of the logo and didn't notice the error I made in the link to launch a new window to display the new news board.

Well, if you're still following this conversation, if something happened a little wonky yesterday, simply clear your computer's cache and bookmark for the bbs. Go to the home page and clear your cache again, reload the page and you'll see the new BNO Community News logo now appears in the BNO Interactive menu bar. (Cory, if you don't clear your computer's cache out first, the logos will not line up properly for the correct sections of the web site). When you get back here, re-bookmark the page.

Also, you can set a preference in your computer browser to check for an updated page every time you visit the page. This makes your browser look at the page on the server first instead of looking at your computer's cache first. If your browser sees the identical page in your computer, it sends the computer cache page to your screen. If it sees a difference, it loads the new stuff from the server. This is all designed to keep things working fast, both in your computer and on the server sending you the pages.

If any of this explanation leaves your mouth agape, send me an email and I'll be happy to walk you through it.

Regards,

Ian

Ian,

I get the general gist of what you are doing but most of what you are saying is far too technical for me to deal with.

I don't know about most of the people who follow this board but as for me, I haven't yet learned to deal with all that is here and I have been at it for several months now.

I find it very frustrating to try to follow directions such as you give above. Most of it is greek to me.

In talking to others, I hear the same difficulty being echoed so may I suggest you attempt to deal with those of us who do not speak computer very well yet.

If I am in the minority then pay me no attention and I will catch up one of these days.

I do greatly appreciate what I am able to use so please don't think I am unhappy. It is a great board.

Thanks for all you do.

Hi Clifford,

That's why I replied to Cory and that's why I said to everyone else, "If any of this explanation leaves your mouth agape, send me an email and I'll be happy to walk you through it."

I just checked my email and you didn't send me one. How come?

Regards,

Ian

Ian,
You just made my point. I thought when I sent a reply here that I was sending you an e-mail.

You folks who are computer literate have forgotten how dumb some of us are when it comes to using this piece of equipment. I don't know how I would send you an e-mail if I don't have an e-mail address.

Ignorance is a pitiful state to be in Huh?

Hi Clifford,

On the left hand side of this screen, there is a vertical menu bar with several selections which you can access by clicking them. When words are underlined in that shade of blue, generally, you can presume that they are links to other sections or optional areas of a web site.

Find the word "Contact" in that list of links and left click on it with your computer mouse. On the resulting page are another couple of links that, when clicked, will pre-populate an email message directly to me.

As you surf the Internet, you can rely pretty much on the "Contact" link as a universal way of getting in touch with the business owner or webmaster or someone important at the company whose web site you are visiting.

Now, here's the simple explanation of what I was replying to Cory about:

Your computer browser is likely Internet Explorer or Netscape. On the horizontal menu bar of the browser (not the internet screen which presents this web page), you will see the icon picture and/or word "Refresh" if it's an Internet Explorer browser or "Reload" if it's a Netscape browser.

Go to our home page and look at the BNO Interactive menu bar on the left side of that screen. You will see two selections: DieselChat and BNO BBS. Click the Refresh/Reload icon picture. The BNO Interactive menu will turn into a 3 selection menu: DieselChat, BNO BBS and BNO Community News. The new section, of course, is the BNO Community News.

The logo that appears on the vertical menu bar on the left of this screen can also be seen on the BNO Interactive menu bar.

After you have clicked the Refresh/Reload icon on your browser, you'll notice the selections also line up properly when you place your computer's mouse over any of them.

If you run into any other problems, Clifford, please let me know any way you know how. I am always very pleased to hear from you, any way you do that.

Happy surfing.

Regards,

Ian

A two step way to contact I@N is maybe more simple for you.

Step 1:
Just click on I@Ns name on the blue bar above his post. This is assuming you are reading Last Days Posts, like I do.

I@N's profile will come up.

The top line says: E-mail: bossnut@busnut.com

Step 2:
Click on the underlined link that says: bossnut@busnut.com

You now have the email form to contact I@N.

BTW (By The Way) you can contact any member that posts on the board if they have included their email address in their profile.

HTH ( Hope this Helps)

Ian & Richard,

Thank you for the information. It really does help to have folks speak a language I understand.

Don't misunderstand me however, I am not against folks with a common interest developing their own jargon if it helps them communicate.

I just am not yet conversant in computer slang but I will get there if that is the best way to communicate.

It does often feel as if I am an immigrant to a new planet and as such I know the burden to learn to communicate is and should be on the immigrant.

Thanks guys you are real ambassadors for your people.

Have a good day,

Clifford Neal

Clifford,
I think you are looking at this entirely wrong...
It is not that you are dumb at using this piece of equipment. As in Bus Conversions, You have to learn the tricks. Ok, a bus is a bit easier because the computer changes continuously, a little at a time and a bus uses the same type od technologies.
You'll be up to speed in good time, as we all are learning in both fields.
