Do any of you know what these coach's cost new in the 70's or 80's? Let's say for example a 1977 MCI MC-8 versus a 1977 Eagle. Or maybe a 1983 Eagle versus a 1983 MCI MC-9. Any help would sure help me settle an arguement I have with a fellow bus nut that's telling me that MCI's were $100,000 higher than an Eagle for the same year and yes that't one hundred thousand dollars more! And yes, my buddy is an MCI fan. Thanks, WC |

In the late 70's I was shopping for a shell and I think the quotes I got were appoximately $140,000 for a MCI, a little less for a Prevost and about $160,000 for an Eagle. In those years there was a shortage of new busses and long delivery times on a shell from MCI or Eagle. MCI's quote was deposit the full price at time of order and expect delivery in about a year. |

NJT paid about $235K for MC9 coaches in 1983 in a competative bid as I recall. Eagles were higher. In 1987, Eagle was low bid. MCIs have traditionally been a little cheaper than Eagles, but that is relative to how hungry Eagle was that year for business, so it can vary somewhat depending on circumstances. When you are buying 700 of a single model, you can get the attention of the pencil sharpeners. Doug St Louis MC9 |
