I want to make a suspension dump system, for low clearance access, anyone have an air circuit showing which skinner valve to use? Has anyone any ideas on what pressure would be in the airbags on my Freightliner, I presume that it would be the same with any airbag suspension system. I have been offered a 75 psi Skinner valve and wondered if it would be enough? Thanks. Peter. |

Airbags can easily be 90-100 psi, you need a 150 lb skinner valve. What you want is a manual over automatic leveling system that uses 3 skinner valves on each leveler-- one to cut off air to the leveling valve, one to add air to the bag, and one to dump air at the air bag(s). There is a little more it than that, but this is the general idea. Perhaps someone has a schematic. --Geoff '82 RTS CA |

Thanks Geoff, I only have airbags on the rear axle so am not sure how effective side to side levelling would be, but probably better than nothing. Hopefully someone will have a schematic as you say. Peter. |

The question is: do you have one or two leveling valves at the back? If you are only interested in dropping the back (rear kneeling?), not leveling, then all you would need is a way to dump the air. The automatic leveler would work once you turned off the dump valve (but you would be losing air pressure). --Geoff |

As far as I know there is just the one valve with a height adjust lever. Peter. |

That reminds me-- there are semi's that have a dump for the air bags for hooking up the fifth wheel and trailer-- you dump the air to back up to the trailer and load the air back after you hook up. |

Peter: If u go to an industrial air/hydraulic supply house, you can get a 2 way/, 5 port pilot air valve. They have an interchangeable coil of various voltages. A 3/8" NPT tapped one will cost u $60-80. With this valve u can have the manual over auto leveler, with the valve switching the source air to the air spring. You can use a seat valve for the manual control or use an Imperial 2-way air cock valve if u want faster action on manual mode. The internal porting of the electric valve may vary by manufacturer, so specific plumbing configuration will vary w/what u get. They are of the sliding spindle design. Generally, they will have 3 ports on one side, 2 on the other, and can be plumbed in different configurations to accomplish different source/target switching. I use mine with switched inputs and common output(tied the discharge ports together, plugged the center(common or shared) discharge |

Peter, be very careful of Fruitliner bags, since some operate at only 45 to 55 PSI. ...JJ |
