Hi All

Thinking of moving will have a full size dodge van , with a complete spare 6-71 engine in the van .Wondering about towing the load across country .

The usual problem with a GM is that the weight of the engine is really hung off the roof.

Therefore tongue weight is usually limited to 300#, with some folks going to 600# (absolute max} for a very short move.

Your van tow bar weighs nothingmuch , so it should not be a problem, ripping the engine out of the coach.

BUT I dont think the 04 is up to STOPPING all that weight.

A brake system , that really works well, should be installed .

The Canadians demand toad breaks on anything over 2000# or so , as you would be 3 or 4 times hs heavy , it should be installed , weather you put an 6-71 in the toad or not.

A legal rated tow bar for this combo , may be hard to find.

If the factory's have a hard time, with this much weight, is your design , engineering and welding up to the task?

The first steep hill should find out.

FAST FRED
