With the glut of big box coaches from NJ Transit, and the never ending supply of transit scrap , the price of nerer big (40ft)coaches has been driven down. This has almost nothing to do with the pricing of an earlier and handier 35's . Since there haven't been 35's made in a long time there price is stable to rising. You will still need to fork over $5000 to $10,000 for a good running , well maintained coach shell, IF you can find one! Most are stuck purchasing a well maintained camper and upgrading or tossing the interior to get a nice unit for Their WAY. There will always be folks that understand "power to weight" ratios , and would prefer 10+ mpg in a handy lightweight monocoque 24000lb camper , to the adventure of installing a short lived 500hp defuler into a 50,000 lb rust bucket, and living with 5 or 6 mpg. 50 years from today the GREAT early coaches will still be putting along enjoying the aluminum monocoque body , although the power plant will possably be a fuel cell rescued from a later day transit scrap. Get what you feel GREAT about , that is a DELIGHT to walk up to, Works for me, FAST FRED |

I personally think that some of the coaches that GM put out in the 60's were (and when restored right, are) among the handsomest buses on the road. I couldn't agree more with Fred, the important thing is to get what you feel GREAT about having. I can't tell you how awesome it feels to me, when I turn the corner of my house and come face to face with my coach, and then sight down along her arrow straight sides. It surprises me constantly, and I swear I smile every time. "Get what is a DELIGHT to walk up to." Well put, Fred. Brian |

having a 4104 is like having another wife, if you get a good one she will last you a life time . [#1, 47 years and counting, #2 12 years and counting] both are in great shape. just be nice to them, treat them with respect and kindness, buy them nice things that you can use, they will think that it is for them, keep them nicly groomed and the fuel that they like best[desiel, oil , grease, beer, wine] the list goes on and on, but the two that i have i hope will last me a life time.... |

A friend of mine just got a 4104. Does anyone have a parts book? He is looking for the tachometer sender part number and a place to purchase it. Has anyone converted to a gear driven alternator? |
