I have a ton of bits that are nearly toast, and I the lost the hand sharpening skill I kind of had 40 years ago. Anyone tried out the Drill Doctor? http://www.drilldr.com/ Do they work well? Ease of use? Another brand recomended? It is spendy at about $90, but it always seems that I need a hole and there is no decent bit left... and it is often not easy to just run out and get new ones. thanks, Peter |

A friend gave me a drill doctor, but there are no instructions. Will someone please advise me on its use? Thank you |

Hi Peter: A few years back Fast Fred had his 4106 in our shop and saw one of our guys manually sharpening a drill bit on our bench grinder. He dug out his Drill Doctor, set it up and the guys gave him some dull bits, which Fred sharpened and then the guys went and tried them out. We went out the next day and bought one at Sears Hardware. It is used almost daily and is the best money we spent in a long time for a shop tool. There were several different models then and we went for the heavier duty version. I would recommend them highly!!! and thanks Fast Fred for putting us on to it. I Hope this HELPS!!! LUKE at US COACH |

Drill Doctor is great, once you get the idea, it's really easy every time. Bruce I'll go check in a little while and see if we still have the directions. If so, I'll copy them off for you Brian |

Drill Doctor is the way to go, hands down! There are other brands that I do not have first hand knowledge. It will sharpen fro 3/16 " to 1/2" with the chuck that comes with it and you can buy the optional chuck that will sharpen 1/2" to 3/4". They also sell a sharpening wheel replacement which I bought right away just to have on hand. Takes about 30 seconds, if that after you learn how to sharpen. I took me about 5 minutes to read the instructions and sharpen my first bit ! Highly reccomend it. ( Vern (in RI) |

Ther GREAT !! but purchase a second sharpening wheel as the first only lasted for about 300-400 bits. Just sharpening ,the wheels last a long time , but if youre replacing the point on a broken bit it wears faster. Best of all the drills actually drill the size holes you planed on. Hand sharpened seldome have both lands equal , so drill oversized holes. A great treat to have a sharp accurate bit, Works for me! FAST FRED |

Darn! My head swims! http://www.drilldoctor.com/comparison_chart.htm shows a wide range of abilities... the 100 to the 750 models http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?BV_UseBVCookie=Yes&vertical=TOOL&pid=00925829000 lists the 100 for $14.88+sht to the 750 for $159.99+sht On EBay I find the 750's selling for about $120+sht ... not to bad I always tend to go with the best of the best and use it for my lifetime... so... get the 750? Any comments? Peter |

Best place to buy one is at "drill doctor's" own website. The top of the range 750 in its case with a BONUS extra sharpening wheel is $139.95 with FREE shipping. Whilst we are talking tools, has anyone used one of those $174 Harbor Freight vertical/horizontal bandsaws? If you have, can they cut 45 degree cuts in 2" x 2" x 1/4" angle? Their description doesn't say if the vice swivels or not and what is the quality of the unit? I don't want it for manufacturing, just home use. Thanks. Peter. |

Probably a plastic magnifying glass..... LOL. http://www.drilldoctorstore.us/drilshar.html Was just a simple search on Google, just put in drill doctor and it was at the top of the list. Peter. |

Oh and when was the last time you misread something, picky, picky, picky......... ......and we are all so perfect aren't we!!!! Next time I will let you all pay more and keep the bargains and helpful hints to myself. Geez, I read "drilldoctorstore" off the print out of my order confirmation, I assumed it was the outlet page of the manufacturer. No wonder we are loosing all the helpful people on these boards, when the slightest error brings flaming. You lot need to get a life or go and convert a bus or something......... LOL. Peter. |
