This link http://content.usatoday.com/communities/greenhouse/post/2011/05/led-replaces-100-watt-inca ndescent-being-phased-out/1 will explain that 100 watt LED's are about to hit the retail market (saving 85% of the energy used in incandesent's ) ....the best part is the PRICE points! ...another Edison invention hits the dust bin..... I only wish Tesla was alive to celebrate! |

Led's have been around for many years, nice to see them moving into a power range for lighting but 50 bucks a bulb seems kinda high, I've got a 1978 revcon that has a black glass panel that is in the living room ceiling with leds in it that makes it look like a starlit night so they've been around for awhile, I think I'll use the old style bulbs for as long as I can, I realize they use a lot of juice but I hope to offset that with solar. Just the 100 watt bulbs are being outlawed for now and I've got a bunch of them, other bulbs will be removed down the road tho, hopefully by then the price will be where I can afford it. |

I've been using LED's for years now. I started to use them as lighting at band gigs because they draw less amperage and are not so hot on the performers. Some of the regular gigs are located where power is not very good, so reducing the amperage load on the circuit helps prevent breakers from tripping. . |

Led's are really a great way to go, we've used them for a long time for our effects lighting for DJing, one of the advantages is no duty cycle to deal with and they've really come a long way as far as brightness but it seems that as soon as the government jumped in the price went up for some reason, I find reasonable prices on our led effects lighting at cheaplights.com, they seem to have the best prices for what we use. When we're in a larger venue or an outdoor gig we go back to our conventional lighting simply for the coverage, led's loose ground on larger areas, a regular bar gig is one thing, an armory or an outdoor gig like a field event is an entirely different animal, one nice thing about outdoor gigs is we can bring out the big guns like the lasers and the moving head toys and use the cloud banks for a wall. Bar gigs arn't the places you want to torch off a confetti cannon, or pyro lol. |

Tesla would have celebrated many years ago if JP Morgan hadn't ruined that eh. So are these really going to be as bright as 100 Watt bulbs or like the other ones that they wanted us to buy and weren't even close? {:>) Chromie |

Dave, I haven't seen the lumens listed for the higher output leds so can't say if they will be as bright or not, in my experience the light intensity is greatly overly optomistic on the part of the factories, the projected price of 50 bucks per bulb is enough to stop me for now. |

The LED bulbs sold today have so few lumens compared to incandescent they are a joke. The reason they save so much power is that they hardly provide any light. |

Lumans are the measure of the light emmited, the higher the lumans the brighter the light and belfert is right, many just don't measure up at this point, at the end of the year the government will ban 100 watt incandesent bulbs with 60 and 75 watt bulbs to follow, the choice is to stock up now or to hope for a miricle both in light emission and one in price breakthrus. For me,, 50 bucks for a bulb that they claim will equal a 100 watt incandesent is a deal breaker, I just can't afford it. My hopes are to be able to stock up and create an inventory that will get me thru until the price comes down as it most likely will in time. |

Not to worry...I'll just bet your insurance company will have a bulb claus in your homeowner's policy. I usually break bulbs before they burn out, so I might have to look into that insurance, eh? |

Maybe it is covered under glass lol, the way my luck runs, the house will be broken into and the laptop and lcd tv will be safe,, but my light bulbs will be gone lol. I can see myself sitting in the prison cell listening to bubba telling about the week he went crazy and killed and dismembered 29 people and heaped their dead burnt bodies up in a pile, then he turns and asks what brought me here to the big house, how do I tell him I got caught with a 100 watt incandesent bulb and make it sound scary. |
