http://www.transteq.com A very interesting site. This company, based in Denver, has developed a 45-foot transit bus with 116 passenger capacity. It is powered by a 70 HP Ford industrial engine running compressed natural gas. It is equipped with a pair of 220 HP electric motors on the drive axle (440 HP total) for some really mean acceleration, and it recharges into the battery bank when decelerating. There is no mechanical drive anywhere between the engine running the generator/alternator and the wheel motors. It's controlled by computer. They have a fleet of these running on the 16th Street Mall in downtown Denver. Nice machines. All maintenance and repair work can be done by only one person. Complete engine swap takes less than an hour. |
