just for info, my 1948 ACF Brill had a speedo cable of two parts; the first section from transmission had a heavier and thicker cable, that then reduced down through a coupler to the common size type. Stewart Warner lists this stuff in their catalog, and look for a speedometer repair shop in the yellow pages near you. Also would be a good time to consider an electronic version, as costs have come down from the past with a greater selection. Several good mfgs. now |

NAPA is one...of my "problems"...tried them a couple of years ago. Local stores have no clue...plus they have now changed ownership. Worse. I ordered cable to DYI, but cut it too long (I guess)..would not function without binding...cut a bit off, re-brazed, now "won't function"....too short?; don't know, but I have now gone several thousand miles without it. For the "next owner", if any, would like to have the thing working properly. Tell me more about "electronic version"///In this part of the third world there are no (at least known to me) speedo shops; ergo the original question. Thanx RCB |

The thing you have to keep in mind is that Napa is a franchise. Nane not ownership. You get whwt you pay for. |

The problem with NAPA is they usually only stock or supply what is in the NAPA supply chain. Same for Auto Zone and the rest of the chain stors.. An unbranded shop will have dozens of sources NAPA doesn't have , and is used to trolling the suppliers for just what a customer needs. This is a daisy chain , folks with problems go to the private shop with problems , so the folks there have far more experience at problem solving. Amazing what a smart experienced counter guy can come up with! OR who he will send you to to solve your problem. FF |

Why not convert to an electronic speedo? They run off 4 bolt heads on the front driver's side brake drum. If the drum does not already have them, it's a piece of cake to drill & tap. Ours is just very accurate compared to GPS. |

Jim...tell me more! Don't find much definitive on the web. Very unclear as to parts needed, etc. Prices seem to range widely; most probably on "what is included". .....And I don't care to go back to NAPA, at least here in Las Cruces. Thanx RCB |
