Hello All,

My Eagle 10 has been sitting in AZ for several years and I need to get it back to WA. I am having trouble finding someone who can haul it and wonder if towing is a viable option? The tires are 9 years old & have about 1500 miles on them and the coach has an Allison 740 transmission. Not sure what else is relavant as far as towing details?

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Steve

Steve that bus is setting so low on the rear no way can it be towed and it is going to cost you dearly to haul it from here to WA with the fuel prices today.
I'll check and see of I can find someone to haul it for you I have a guy in Mesa but he is going to be around 3 bucks a mile right now give me a call at the house if you still have my number or check with Andy he has it if not I'll pm it to you

Ouch! I hate to say it, but at that price.... I assume you have considered parting it out and/or scrapping it

Don't have your number and I am not seeing how to access PM's???

Considered scrapping? Not likely. Sell complete...Perhaps. I would rather park her in my bak yard and spend a couple of years getting her roadworthy again.

Just click on the blue lettering of the person's name on the left of the screen. It will take you to another page with the person's email address in blue and it's clickable too.

Don't know if it helps or not but an all up lift on a low loader as a back load might be an option. No worry with tyres blowing out or dragging its bum on the ground. Most back loaders only want to cover fuel and a few bucks for their trouble.

I drove the coach coast to coast several times in the '90s. It has been driven little since 2002. I put 6 new Yokahama tires on in '02 while on my last cross country.

I am concerned about the condition of the tires as the coach has been parked in the AZ sun for the last 9 years. Also the rear suspension has settled. I have not seen it but Luvrbus tells me that it may make driving impractical.

Given how long it has been sitting there could be other issues that could come up.

Now I'm curious, like me, my iggle is a little low in the back, I've got plenty of thread left on the torslastic bars, about how many turns on the nut would it take to raise it a couple of inches,, metal is in great shape just curious. What is the height they are supposed to sit at,

Cody, takes a 1/2 in on the adjustment bolt to raise 1 in, measure at the fender flare 47 to 48 inches is good if it has been real low then you have to re index the boogies and that my friend is a major job.

good luck

Mapquest says it is 1020 miles from Ft. Mohave to Milton Freewater OR. If I could find someone to haul it that far for $2500 I would do that.

Or, if it is worth it to anyone, I would sell it for $10k.

A back load is a trucker that made a trip to your location and needs a load to haul back instead of returning empty. Usually you can get a trucker to give you a good deal so he doesn't return empty. As long as you can find the right truck that can haul your bus. There are probably some delivery schedules on line that truckers use.

Thanks Gomer. I do understand. I would MUCH prefer to have my Eagle here rather than a S&S trailer. Unfortunately my Eagle is 1000 miles away and I am not making much progress in finding a way to get it up here.

Steve check in at a local truck stop and I found several times that you could get a trucker going your way cheaper that trying to find it otherwise. Sometimes they have to wait several days to get a haul to go out.?????

Steve for what it's worth if you need a pair of eyes in AZ I am in Tucson If your bus is close I can check it over for the pre trip basics, if she checks out then you could put the $2,500 towards tires for her instead of for transport. just a thought

Thanks for the input Everyone.

I am looking at taking a week off of work, flying to Vegas, renting a car to get to Ft. Mohave and spending $800-900 on fuel for the return trip. Misc repairs, meals & expenses on the trip. Budget for tires gets a bit slim. Any suggestions on used tires in the Bullhead/Laughlin area?

Thanks again.

The trailer needed for moving a coach is specialized equipment.

Specialized equipment is rarely to be had at inexpensive prices.

Because you don't have a choice, and there aren't a lot of them.

Get some busnuts together for an adventure, make it run, drive it home, post videos.

happy coaching!

If there is a Heavy Truck wrecking yard in that area, I would try them even if you have to roll home on truck wheels (24 inch)

I'd look hard at the tires on the coach first. Get $100 tow insurance drive easy. We drove ours up from CA with some weather checks but made it with no trouble. If you have to drive in the nite and sleep daytime, if you drove it easy you can hold it on the road with a blowout.
Just me I know there will be a lot negative,

what is all this hype about tires? how many of use are out there driving on tires that are older than 7 years? well if these tires were new or close to new 7 years ago the just look at them and if they do not have cracks that you can put your thumb nail in 1/8 in. then they should be good for going home with. just go to a tire shop and ask them to look at them however be sure and tell them you are not buying new tires and you should get a fairly honest reply. to many people get hung up on the age and not the condition. mel 4104

Steve knows he needs tires the AZ sun has killed his tires when we moved it 5 miles we only put 70 lbs in the tires because of the wide cracks in the sidewalls.
If I knew how to post photos I would I bet you guys would not drive around the block with his tires lol and Steve is not going to chance it for 1100 miles he is a smart guy

Chemical compounds in tires start to break down after about five years, and you run the risk of sidewall failure (blowouts). Nine year old tires, regardless of mileage are at best dangerous and should be replaced.

You can't give them away here, tire shops will not even take them in on trade (nothing over 4 years old) replacement is the best idea, that makes sense. Going slow and driving only at night is iffy, they might make it or they might not.

Since you will need tires eventually , buy them now and simply drive home.

Towing on the tires will be about the same loads as driving , and you will have to remove the rear axles to tow if the bus has an auto tranny.

A flat bed ride would be easiest in the bus as most Eagles need mucho frame repair before going back in even RV use.

I bought some used Toyo 12r 22.5 from him for a friend 300 bucks and they looked new.

Thanks Everyone for your input.

I have come to the conclusion that hauling/towing is not practical. I cannot afford new tires at this time.

It is beginning to look like I may try to limp her home as-is. Its a gamble I know but my only other option at this point is to sell her.

Thanks again.

Stephen...KTF...(Keep the Faith)....it's hot out there and keeping the speed down can be loads of help. I have tires that are old...but at reasonable speeds, they do just fine. 1000 miles at 55 should be no problem...ass u ming they are not cracked flat at this point.

If you do not have it, get Road Insurance...mine is with Progressive...they'll do right by you...$125 or so is what I pay (Road Care)

Don't give up!!!...you wanted it....make it work!! : :-) :-) Where there is a WILL...there is usually a way.:-):-)

Best wishes...and we're Prayin' for YOU!.

There is a pretty good chance that the driver locked up the brakes and flat spotted the tires just before he crashed.

Unfortunately, after 17 years of bus ownership, I am going to be busless. Things are just not coming together. Unexpected expenses and a work schedlule that wont cooperate with my trip plans have pushed me to the conclusion that I need to sell my Eagle.

I know I can not expect to get much for her in this market but it is better than leaving her to sit and rot :-(

If anyone here has any interest I will be taking the best offer I receive.

Thanks
