Looking for info/comments on repainting the roof of the bus. My concern being durability and sealing properties. I've heard of rubberized paint, but not sure if it's applicable for this use. Also, any suggestions on preparation would be appreciated as well. Thanks all! |

If you live close to Albuquerque NM have Jim Smith spray the top with the smooth bed liner makes for a good roof and nothing will bother it he does a lot of RV's with the rubber roofs and buses also. You should see his Harley he sprayed with the bed lining work of art good luck (Message edited by luvrbus on May 28, 2011) |

The ARCHIVES have numerous threads on the subject, it surfaces every 6 mos it seems. The next element to be broached is CERAMIC PAINT on the subject. Dallas always thought Dating Rasin's would be a Plum job but they don't hire PRUNES!!! AND fwiw Cat won't let him have rasins anymore, she's tired of pulling them out of his ears. |

Christy Hicks did my 4107 with white ceramic, it is all in the archives. I haven't had it long enough in hot weather to voice any educated opinion. I am constantly amazed at the number of people who paint bus tops with dark colors--weird!! Well, maybe not so weird in frozen wasteland areas, but surely weird in hot climates. |

How about LINE-X bedliner. I am looking at that for my roof. They are all over the world and have a lot of colors. Go to: Linex.com and see what they have to offer. Good Luck, Mike |

Tried the ceramic stuff , it FAILED as it was a dirt magnet , and dark stinks in the sun. I would use the siliconeized house trailer paint , sold in the South. It flexes and stretches , but the key is it is white on white so has better insolation (it reflects heat by design ). At $15 to $25 a gallon (you pay for quality) the coat is minor and a roller application tipped out with a sable brush gives a very pro look. Second choice would be any brand of quality WHITE marine paint , 2 coats after correct metal primer. FF (Message edited by FAST FRED on May 29, 2011) |

since reading this post, I set out to find the solution to our problems. Went to LOWES,Looked at the elastromic roof coating cans, Talked with the rep there and it can be tinted for color. Now it will void the warranty when done but how good is the warranty anyway? Found a color chart and looked for a matching color and found a so close match it was unreal. Talked to the paint man and they don't charge for tinting paint. Now,they recommended a bonding chemical about $5 and they said it would do the job. I will have to buy about 3 gal and I am going to get only 1 for the start up of this. Hopefully I will be able to do it next week and will let you know the resutls. They can put flat,semi-gloss or gloss in the mix. Since I have used this product in the past, It will stick when cleaned. Gallon cans are about $15 and 5 Gal are close to 75,so I think that I will have about $50 in mine totally. When using it put it on at least in the cool of the day or in a good shade tree. It will lay down pretty good and it doesnt look bad at all when complete. Use a GOOD ROLLER TOO. LOL It is a water based product and easily cleaned up in case of a Oh FOOEY!! If I can figure out how to post pictures I will do that and let the FOOEY out... LOL Gomer |

Use a GOOD ROLLER TOO. Rollers do a fine job , and if the surface is not show grade the tiny pattern left in the surface is a help. Folks that want a "spray paint" smooth surface can do it with a technique called "Roll & Tip". One person lays on a generous even layer and the second goes over it very lightly (to smooth the roller marks) with a GOOD! brush. THe brush MUST be quality , usually a boat store varnish brush , sable or hog brisles about 2 inch, unfortuniatly about $35. FF |
