When we was kids in High School the marching band would always play on Memorial Day at the Cemetery. Tom & Bill would play a "call & answer" duet of Taps while Charlie & I played a continuous soft drum roll. It was a volunteer effort. It was our duty. All 3 of them gave their lives in Viet Nam... When you gives thanks to them & the rest on this day, keep in mind that they gave their lives.... and us our futures BUT it was their families & parents that gave EVERYTHING. I don't do the "grave walk" anymore on Memorial Day, I try to do those things that they never got to, for them. It might look like I am having a good time on the outside, seemly enjoying the earthly pleasures of the day... but on the inside emptiness & tears for all concerned. They were just boys..... . . . ....carry on. (Message edited by Jack_fids on May 28, 2011) |

We all have to remember that we wouldn't be here to own busses, or agravate each other on this forum without the military. We take for granted every day the freedoms we have. If our biggest problem is somebody on this board, we don't have any. God Bless our Service Men and Women, Mike |

Thank you jack, and thank you all who served, some find peace in remembering, others in trying to forget. We're only here for a short time, what we do or don't do will probably not be noticed by anyone over the long term, it's for our own peace of mind that we do the little things we do, when we stop and help somebody it makes us feel good, like we still have something to contribute, when we pack up the music and head for our day at the nursing home and put on some glenn miller and see the elderly lady that doesn't know her own children anymore start to smile I often wonder who she is thinking about, is it somebody that didn't come home, some stories we'll never know, so many have lost so much,, given so much, it's humbling. |

Les, thanks for the link and to all those who served "Salute" and a whispered prayer for those still in harm's way. Thank you to the families who's hearts ache everyday for the safety and return of their loved ones and may God's peace be with those who's loved ones have given all. We fly the flag at our house with an awesome sense of dignity and reverence and never once do we take for granted our liberty. John and Barb |

Being born in a communist country my family having to get out leaving everything behind hearing stories of loved ones still there gives me a perspective that does not allow for complacency or the ability to take freedom for granted. I pray for this country. YES MARVIN in church today. GOD bless. |

A second story in 2 days... this Soldier is coming home 66 years late.. http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/06/08/wwii.airman.remains/index.html?hpt=hp_t2 "Some 74,689 Americans who served their country during a War remain listed as missing in action." That's a whole lot of missing brothers, sons, fathers & friends, IF & when you ever visit Arlington Cemetery in D.C. please keep that number in mind when you stand at the foot of THE Unknown's Memorials.... not 2 but nearly 75 THOUSAND.... |
