we have been working on trying to remove this darn tag axle on my MC7 off and on since last year and it is driving me nuts today we took off the collar, heated the daylights out of it and hooked a chain to my 4x4 and tugged. We managed to get it moving up and down with hydraulic jacks and after heating it we got it to at least go down on its own. I know it is rusted up etc. but why won't it come off??
tomorrow we are trying again as we ran out of daylight and the little warmth from the sun today.
Can anybody give me some clues and accurate scematics of how this devil comes apart....its almost as frustrating as the bathroom removal was.
I am going to post on other boards as well to try for all the advice possible

Harry,
Why do you want to remove it?
Won't that leave alot of weight overhanging the drive axle?
I have thought about it, but was concerned with the stability and driving chages this might involve?

My book shows only that collar (clamp) that holds it in. Likely due to lack of lube an the shaft got corroded (rusty), just like a king pin, that is a problem. ralph7

Someone, don't remember who, said they saw a tag axle removed at ABC Bus in Winter Garden, FL by hitching the tag axle to a backhoe and pulling it out using the tractor. Jack

I have been sent some pretty explanatory pictures and help from a great Bus Nut. I can now see that my only problem is RUST binding the axle in place. Drilled a hole in top of sh=xle housing and will pour lots of rust killer to free it up and then lube it properly.
This just goes to show that you need to keep things greased !
