I have always dreamed of converting a Setra. They are great coaches and my favorite. I have owned sixteen of them. 1989's to 1993's.The design is sleek, the ride is smooth, maintenance is minimal, (especially now that alot of modification have been done). They turned the radiator to the side with easy slip out for repairs. It used to be a pain to pull the fan and belts off to get to the radiator. What's the cost of glass though for the driver's side window? Yes, the S417 is a nice looking coach. Tech support is super! |

Questions for a converter: Does it have a flat floor? Does it need a roof raise? Is it easy to blank out windows? Where do you find opening windows? What is the cost of opening windows? The rest of the conversion looks standard. |

If the 417 is built much the same as previous Setra models, it is a daunting job to come up with inside head-room. You also would not come up with a single level floor, but 2 levels. It can be done, but very few would undertake it unless they were just looking for a real challenge. There are many late 80's, early 90's Setras on the market. Big drawback to them: they are the MOST expensive coach on the market, barring none and they do have rust problems and a lot of European market parts. |

James - The new 417s have a flat passenger floor, something that most US operators pushed hard for - makes it much easier on the clean-up crew. One real advantage to the Setra is their fantastically short turning radius - only 37' for the 40 footers, and just 40' for the 45s. NOTHING else on the market comes close. Do hope the new ones have better corrosion protection, I think that's one of the areas DaimlerChrysler may have had some influence upon. . . FWIW RJ PD4106-2784 Fresno CA |
