Well I'm almost back home from getting the 4107, taking a side trip along the way.
Had a head wind from Oregon to So.Cal and what seems like a on going decent in altitude for 1,000 miles, all the time thinking I have to drive the route back. Wrong, I changed course to go Las Vegas then north to Twin Falls then head to Oregon.
Let's back up a bit, pulled into PO and parked in front of his house was a 4104 with Kevin also waiting for his aluminum tanks that I shuttled down. It was nice to have both the PO and Kevin there going over my bus and explaining things to me and I actually retained them. Kevin hopped in the drivers seat and we took off for a test drive, and to fuel up the empty 165 gal tank, ouch.
Along the way back I got 8 mpg on a all up and down route, so I was quite pleased that I was going to get better on the flats, I believe the PO said he was getting 10 - 12 on flats and I'm leaning that way also. Strong engine, passing going up hills and way too much power on level, zipped along at 80 mph once and could have pushed it more but was just testing the acelaration, wow! It can also lay down a good Mosquito fog bank if desired, found the sweet spot. My right leg just above the knee is cramped up, I think the seat is set to low because my leg is angled up, Jack I promise I won't send pictures of my leg... on second thought.
The only real problem is a shimmy going on around 60 to 65, need toget rid of the split rims and the other problem, Where's the Horn Button?

On the floor on the left. Looks kind of like a dimmer switch, if you are talking about the air horn.
Otherwise, the city horn is the button in the middle of the steering wheel.

Learn to drive 58-60, your mileage will be what the PO said.

Passing people on the way up a hill is a good way to kill skeeters and fill the wallets of the oil company executives.

Congrats on the good buy!

Thanks Dallas, found the floor button, PO added wood flooring so brought up to where button is flush and it was covered with spray foam.
Do plan on driving it in the range you suggested, just needed to know what she is capable of doing if ever needed.

Do you have a 4 speed trans? I get about 6-7 mpg with my AT! Make sure your odometer is accurate. My 4104 was about 10% off and made the mileage seem better than it actually was. I use my GPS to compute mpg, which is far more accurate.

I hooked up a hand throttle to relieve my leg. It wasn't easy because of the routing necessary to the pedal which is attached to an air throttle cylinder. If you have no air throttle it will be much easier. I got used to the original hand on my 4104 and can't even think about giving it up.

I don't have the extra power for hills you talk about, it isn't much better than my 4104 but it is also much heavier by about 6000 lb. It is, indeed, too fast on flat ground, I have to watch myself all the time. I never had that problem with my 4104!

Get a cruise control.

Pete sells them here at the BNO classifieds:

http://www.busnut.com/classifieds/index.php?a=2&b=708

Best fuel saving, leg saving, device and it will quickly pay for itself, if you are one of those guys who can't slow yourself down with the pedal underfoot.

It will kill you, been there, done that, got the religion now, but once you learn that your penis size doesn't change with slowing down, you won't return to high fuel consumption!

happy coaching!

Sam:
I'm really glad you posted this - otherwise I'd wonder forever whose 4107 that was that went by on Hiway 93 in the afternoon of June first! Half way (more or less) between Jackpot & Twin Falls.

Looked good
Sounded nice

Grats

Nope - I was just standing in the front yard contemplating dandelion extermination philosophies.

I get up your way in the bus about once a year. Relatives in Kennewick, Selah, Wenatchee.

Yes and Yes - however the pic was taken just a couple years after the paint job. Three trips between Anchorage and Southern Idaho since - well, you get the picture.

Does anybody make a removable rubber bus bumper boot?

Go to an Auto-Trimmer's shop and tell him you need a Bra for your Bus....
when the laughter subsides
show him your cash & you'll get some protection for your rig.

If you're lucky he'll have a license to hunt GIANT Nauga's....
because a THICK Naugahyde Bra will do the trick....!

( Albino Nauga's are more rare than a sober Farnworth, ;)
so White will not be your option, that & it looks like hell after an hour on the road )

You were drugged into this because of your rarity not because of your petulance .

Maybe you are responsible for this:

Sam,

Good to hear you made it home with minimal worries! Though we've spoken long since, I would just like to "publicly" announce that you are my HERO!!! Yes, HERO!!!

Sam is the guy that read my post of 5-9-11 asking if anyone might happen to be traveling south from Northern Oregon to Southern California, and if so, might consider hauling a couple of aluminum fuel tanks down for me.

Sam, who was doing just that to pick up his sweet GM 4107, wasn't at that time able to log-on to the Busnuts site but accessed my phone # and made contact. He generously arranged to meet with the person I'd purchased the tanks from online and brought them to me (at considerable out-of-the-way-time-and-trouble!!!) and delivered the tanks in perfect condition. Sam then accepted only half of what I offered him for his troubles. Love you, Baby!!! Honest.

We all piled into Sam's new coach, and at Sam's and Bill's (PO) request, I drove Sam's new coach to the nearby truck stop to demonstrate shifting technique etc, failing miserably! Couldn't get one stinkin' shift (up or down) to engage smoothly.

Can you say choke?! Couple of days before (and as you all may recall) I declared shifting was "just like my '04". The bloody thing shifted like butter! I got nervous I guess and couldn't do anything right, much to the chagrin of poor Bill... and who knows what Sam was thinking... the worse, I suppose! Lol! Anyway, thanks, Sam, for your time and trouble, and it was a true pleasure to meet you.

It was a good thing that I read up alot on the 4107's and knew about the grinding while shifting and actually remembered riding a bus in the 60's with the driver having a hard getting the gears, he might have been your father Kevin. Like Father Like Son!
I'll send you some pictures of the upgrades and remodel I'm already planning, changed it a thousand times.
Big smile on my face when I pulled up and saw your bus there waiting, what a welcome to the Busnuts it was, that was worth the 300 miles out of the way to get your tanks but don't ask me again to do it again, I probably would.

What a Guy! Looking forward to pics!

If there's room in your remodel, you may wish to re-think the existing bed layout (sideways in rear of coach, as I recall). My wife was very adamant that she would NOT be crawling over me to get in and out of bed, and also pointed out that even making the bed would be difficult. Just a thought. We did ours "Island" style, though it takes a few more inches out of the available area.

Have fun creating your unique, new interior! I've a long way to go with mine, as you know from seeing inside. It's very usable though. In fact, we're heading for the coast Thursday to celebrate our 21st. Camping along the Rincon Parkway for a few days before returning home Sunday.

Looking forward to pics of your progress!

Kevin
