OK where has the Gulf Stream gone. They say it is missing and because of the oil spill those things are what is effecting the weather. In Northern California we had 5 Tornadoes last week and that just doesn't happen. We have twisters form time to time but thats it. These actually took down a guys garge and another big Barn.We are generally in the 90's to low 100's also and we are in the 60's to 70's with lots of rain and lightning, Hail, wind??? Just wondering Chromie Goggle the Gulf Steam see for yourself. |

Chromie.... this is a La Nina year and your local occurrences are not unknown. We've been in drought for the last 3 years at least. We had 2" of rain a couple of weeks ago and the last time we had measurable precipitation was back before Christmas. Unfortunately, right where we live, we can watch gulley washers in town about a mile north of us and at the tire store about a half mile south of us, but none of it will hit here. Ever. |

Have none of you guys ever heard of global warming? Our weather here in the mid-south is exactly as predicted a few years ago, unfortunately! |

Global warming my butt! Here in my town in Alaska, the last two years and now this year it has been wetter and colder than ever. I think it's more like climate change. A natural occurrence that we can not control. Drill baby drill!!! |

Gary you may be right but this is pretty interesting reading and why it is affecting our weather. Dave http://www.infiniteunknown.net/2010/09/14/life-on-this-earth-just-changed-the-north-atlant ic-current-is-gone/ http://www.bbc.co.uk/climate/impact/gulf_stream.shtml |

Unfortunately, the originators used the wrong words. The rapid rise in global average temperatures, without any natural phenomena to blame, may be a cause, but locally, it will be climate change, some places warmer, some colder, some drier, some wetter. And some, windier! Unfortunately, the media and popular culture latched onto the "global warming" thing and think it means "warmer" everywhere... It's all in the use of words, and the general public's inability to understand the otherwise unexplainable rapid changes in weather patterns. In much the same way that "anti-lock brakes" in hydraulic brake systems has been grossly misrepresented by marketing types, and therefore misunderstood by John Q. Public. Hint: they lengthen most stopping events in the trade off to let you steer into oncoming traffic for a fatality event, in your sad attempt to avoid the simple property damage crash you were driving too fast to avoid in the first place. Weather and vehicle dynamics, two of life's misunderstood mysteries. happy coaching! buswarrior |

Personally, being from the Upper Penninsula of Michigan, I'm eagerly awaiting the opportunity to plant palm tree's, I would even go so far as to check and see if the trade in value of my snowblower would cover the cost of a good quality hammock. I have no job for the economy to disrupt and am already quite thoroughly broke with 2 kids in medical school, my health would kill me long before I got squashed by an advancing ice sheet caused by the long term effect of global warming. I'd even provide a spot for al gore to park while he explained to me why it's so balmy out in the winter. Yep,, bring on global warming, I'm ready for it. |

For half a century the Government & media have drilled it into me, " be afraid of everything in the future". Funny how after 50 years that there seems to be absolutely nothing to look forward to, never a brighter day ahead, never legislation that will make life 1 iota easier or more enjoyable. Funny how "The Greatest country in the World" just never seems to have a dimes worth of good news for all of us lucky enough to live in North America... Also funny how those in the media & in Government live at least 3 levels above anyone I know. The country is going to hell in a handbasket.... why? Really ? ...I think we all pay to much attention to those who tell us what we want to hear, remember they are PAID to do it, they don't really believe it, blowing hot air or paying lip service to a captive audience PAYS better that working for a living...in case you haven't noticed. |

This now that you have all chimed in? Has nothing to do with Global warming, it has to do with (Had you read the website articles) that the Gulf stream which is responsible for warming up the water that flows around the world is( Not missing and not hiding in Al Gores Garage thank God because then he'd be back in the news, WAH,Wah,Wah) "gone" and when the gulf stream meets the cool water and has an effect on the weather getting WARMER (Normally this time of year) it is not doing this, this year so far and scientists don't(in their own words)know why. But they do think this is why we all are having weird weather this year. I had a very informed friend tell me this a week ago and when He said It I had no idea what he was saying. But it seems you all have the answers , LOL I was not trying to start a war just an interesting thing I had heard then read about and thought i would share. LOL Chromie |

War Starter..!! Here's a little story from my own experience..... 1978, I went to Palmer Station, Antarctica, a facility built at the end of 1969. When it was constructed they dynamited a hole in the Granite rock 100 yards behind the facility to collect melt water from the Glacier that was 50 yards further than the hole, for drinking water for the facility. By the time I arrived 9 yrs. later the distance to the Glacier was now slightly over 100 yards away. My Brother went to Palmer to work in 1991, 6 mos. later he was home & showing his photos to me..... the Glacier had receded almost 1/2 a mile in the 8 years since my last assignment there. A year ago, the ENTIRE Glacier collapsed in one swift movement..! BTW there is another name for the Gulf Stream, the thermohaline circulation. for more intense info have a look at these sites: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermohaline_circulation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_Stream http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shutdown_of_thermohaline_circulation |
