Join the Good Sam Club and subscribe to their Roadside Assistance Program. About $100 a year and it covers all your other vehicles too. Peter. |

Are these plans like AAA where you pay your "premium" and if you have a flat they come fix it for nothing? |

You can hope these plans are not like AAA. Triple A will not tow a bus. Go Good Sam or FMCA. |

Thanks for the help...I joined FMCA and through them got the roadside assistance from Coach.net. It's the same price as Sam's and seems to offer more benefits and 10,000+ more service providers, which is what sold me. nothing worse than waiting 3-4 hours for service. I bought a 1960 PD 4104,my first diesel pusher, and have to drive it almost 1200 miles to get it home and when all i have to go on is a discription about how good ir runs , roadside assistance is worth it's weight in gold.....Thanks guys....Bob |

Last spring we signed up with Coach.net through FMCA while in Kingman, Az. visiting a friend. We left an hour or so after I called and gave them my credit card number, headed for Phoenix. About an hour into our trip we blew a tire! When I called Coach.net I was sure they would think I was already broken down when I called to sign up, but no problem, they sent a service truck right out to change the tire. In fact, they did not even charge my card for 2 or 3 days after my sign-up call. |

Bob On your journey home, be sure and watch the water temp gauge, dont lug the engine. Keep the rpm up in all the gears. If the bus has stood for a while, its possible the fuel filters are dirty. if you find the coach slowly loosing power, it will most likly be a filter. One in front, one on the right rear bulk head. Watch the guages. The 4104 is a great coach, when you get used to driving the coach, you will really appreciate the admiration the Greayhound drivers had for them. John |

Hi Bob, Welcome to the herd! You've bought a great bus IF it's in good shape. We have a '59 4104 which after 4 years & 40,000 miles I love like a good dog. Where are you picking up the bus & where are you going with it? |

AAA RV Premium has towed my bus twice at a cost of over $1500 with no problems. I have a friend who is in the towing business and he says AAA RV Premium is the best of all for payment and no hassle. It also covers the rest of my vehicles Tbird |

Hi guys, I drove the bus home from Dallas Tx. to Flint Mi.The bus ran well all the way with no problems. The only things i noticed were a lot of black exhaust smoke no matter how easy I pushed on the gas and it's really hard to steer and pulls to the right and no power steering,so to the repair shop it goes...and no heat...I froze my a$$ off...lol...I have a 1990 Bravo which I'm replacing with the 4104 cause it's delaminating beyond repair and chassis is badly rusted....so I figured a bus conversion was a no brainer...the water temperature didn't seem to get much higher than 110 degrees. is this normal? is there a thermostat? I always thought diesels ran hot.....Bob |

Black smoke would most probably be from wrong or really worn injectors. Most shops can realign the steering IF too much isn't worn out. Happily most repair items to rebuild the front are still on the shelf , although you may have to send for them. There may be valves that are closed between the engine bulkheads that just need to be opened. It could also be with NO or broken thermostats your having cool water circulate , but only 110 is hard to believe .You can hold your hand on 110 for a good while , Is the engine THAT cool? Welcome to a great hobby , But by DA BOOK ! and find a good DD wrench. FAST FRED |

Hi Bob, Smoking can be from your air filter being very dirty too. Lack of heat at the heater and defroster may be because the circulating pump is not working also. Welcome to the bus world and enjoy your bus. Thanks, Sam Sperbeck La Crescent, MN |

When I bought my 4104 many years ago, one of the things I discovered was that the water hoses going to the heater and the heater its self was full of gunk. Do not know what it was exactly, but I assume due to the water that had been used over the years. I took the hoses off and first flushed then with a water hose and a lot of stuff came out of the hoses. Also removed the hoses from the radiator and drained all the gunk out of it. Tried a couple of flushes and it helped, but finally had to remove the radiator and have it rodded to get proper water circulation. Then more flushes to clean out the heater and hoses and then I had heat to keep me warm. Richard |

Bob 110 water temp is not possible to LOW. Bad sender or gauge or probably loose wire. Glad you got home saftely. You may have power steering, but have a bad pump or arm,at the front. Babs is a great place to get help.I will look forward to hearing all about your new coach and your new hooby. Weclome aboard. John |
