I really can't see the difference between posting on the board and posting on facebook unless one wants his comments not to be general knowledge, and that sort of defeats the idea of idea sharing on the board. I don't book face because everyone who has any reason to know what I'm doing knows it without reading it on the internet. Since the board is declared a "private" posting area, why facebook comments? Am I missing something? |

It could be because Ian has been looking for an updated forum for this one. For a short time he tried another one, but that kind of wasn't right for us, (lol), Facebook is as secure as you want it to be... If you don't put in information on your profile that you don't want known, no one will know it. Plus, there are quite a few new people there that aren't on this forum, which is giving them more access to information they wouldn't have otherwise. Well, I'm not on facebook and I'm not going to join facebook, so it will be a shame if I lose this forum. I quite like it. Brian I don't tweet either. Or text. I type and talk. What this says about me i don't know... |

I guess I am with Don and Brian, don't do facebook or any of the other things. Don't enjoy them , if this forum goes I'm out all of the good info and what I think of as good friends here. Don't even mind being put down as I can dish it out and pretty much take it. Larry |

All a matter of choice. I haven't heard anything about this venue being replaced by the facebook site. I got the impression that facebook might have been an off topic venue but so far most of the interaction has been bus related. It does give people who aren't registered to post on this forum access to the great wealth of knowledge that is available on here. I limit the amount of personal info that I make available regardless of the site. Think of it as just one more tool in the tool box. |

Dallas has made new friends on Face, gets in trouble there also! I have personal Face account and have it opened wide open , don't hide a thing, no reason to. When I travel, even if it's 70 miles and I see something interesting I take a photo with my phone and post it right to Facebook. My friends enjoyed the trip back from California with the bus, most all my friends are from grade school on up, it's a way to keep in touch. Now the Bus part of Facebook just gives another outlet to have people post things there where they might otherwise be shy to publish something here, there are alot of women that post things there, no offense CamperBrat. There's 4 cents worth of 1 cent from me. Sam |

Well Larry it is like this. social networking is a phenomenon that can't be denied and used properly it can have a lot of positive results. For example, I was able to reconnect with people who I had not seen since high school and I also made contact with a niece that I had not seen for over 30 years. In fairness, used improperly it can be put to a lot of negative things as well i.e.. kids bullying each other. It really is in how it is used. Maybe your kids put you on facebook as a hint that they want more contact with you or that they think that you need more contact with a broader segment of the world wide society that we all live in. Whatever the reason, they must have thought that it was something you could use and enjoy. I am an old curmudgeon that was dragged kicking and screaming into the computer and social networking world.. It wasn't easy for me and I still have problems but you have to admit that it opens up a whole world of possibilities that otherwise would not be possible -like us having this ability to communicate. |

Larry I agree with you . It is IMHO "Look at me" I want you to love everything I do and know everything about me and all my friends and Like me? It is another way for all to market to you and everyone you put on your page. Oh and guess where all the hackers go to mess with you. They are now finding that collectors as well as Government are watching so they can find you or use your info for political gain. Ya'll want to know where people are losing their Identities or why? Well just put it all out their for all to know. FWIW Chromie |

I have a facebook account but I'm not sure why, I don't post anything on it and rarely comment on any of the others, I have a cell phone somewhere here in a drawer, if anyone wants to call me they can reach me at home, I don't call anyone much, just don't feel the urge to be connected I guess. |

Here is the deal....I already "connect" with my daughters each and every day. The few times I have looked at my facebook page, or theirs, I came away with reinforcement to my notion that it is a total waste of time. The stuff that go's on there is just "nuthin"..... I guess this is why, now, people walk around with the cellphones IN THEIR HANDS (not in a pocket, or strapped to a belt)....they absolutely MUST be connected. We ate at a Japanese Steakhouse for my birthday, and I know you all have seen these places, the chef slaps his tools around and everyone claps. Well at the next "table", a family of three, MOM, DAD, DAUGHTER were sitting there, each with a fancy phone, each "thumbing" their lives away like madmen, and not one word was spoken, either amongst themselves or to their "neighbors" at the table. It was like these idiots were from Mars. Sorry, count me out. |

I am not on Facebook, and I am not about to get on it either. I watch my kids and my wife waste countless hours every day on it. I prefer being out and about enjoying real life. The few minutes a day I spend doing email, reading the news and keeping up to all you bus-nuts is enough. JC |

Interesting responses, some are well thought out, some sound like the reasons given back in the dark ages, "It's Evil", "They are Witches!" You'll be hacked, you'll lose your eyesight, "Here There Be Tygers!" Facebook is nothing more than a tool, and as such can be used or misused to your hearts content, just like a gun or a drug or alcohol or a television. If you choose not to use every available option to research an answer, that is your choice. And, a previous comment was made about my connecting with a lot of new friends, well, it's actually true. I've connected with family that I haven't seen in 40-50 years. I also have connected with some people in my family that are working on family genealogy... of which I have a lot of information. Again, I see it as a useful tool, nothing more, nothing less. |

I liked the InterWebs long before the nefarious GoogleTubes started corrupting them with Wiki's, Tweets & Likes. If God had wanted all of us to become Webbies he'd have given us an IP address instead of a roadmap to salvation. It's a tool of the Devil I tell you, evil. Hopefully it's just a passing fad.... one that never catches on, like civility, the yen for better government & an informed electorate. |

Its a shame that people can't talk to each other these days. They sit next to each other and text etc. What a waste of valuable time. Get to know that person next to you. You might even be related if you took the time to talk to them. We are on this earth for such a short time so lets enjoy it. Like Brian and so many more I do not text, face book or twitter. These things and the internet are blocked on our cell phones. I may be old fashioned but like personal contact any day over these types of comunication. The interaction on here is great without going onto face book etc. My rant for today. Should start a few more posts. Cell phones and texting are now banned in Ontario while driving and will cause you a heavy fine if caught. Bill |

"We are on this earth for such a short time so lets enjoy it. " Your rant for the day impressed me. I find it fascinating that there is a mass denial for the reason we have 5 senses & a mass exodus from personal face to face contact & interaction. Rant onward & upward regardless..! |

Isn't it funny how we can disagree on anything here. I am on facebook and use it to connect with old friends and share photos with relatives. I think this board has its place, and Facebook has its place. Those that choose not to be on both can interract on the forum they like and trust. I don't see Facebook taking the place of this Board. I would like to see the people who are asking questions on Facebook to join this Board, so they can be raked over the coals by as many people as possible. Enjoy what you are most comfortable with. A friend and fellow ski patroller, who is also a kindergarden teacher, has trouble with today's technology. He even has trouble with his cell phone (so do I, unless I just call & answer...I don't text). Anyway he said one day when talking about all this nose in the cell phone text crap..."We are so connected these days, that we are out of touch". Makes sense, eh? |

I wasn't trying to disparage facebook or any similar site; we all DO have a choice to keep our anonymity. I just don't want to have to read our bus posts on facebook, nor will I give up any of my privacy to join facebook to read them (or anything else.) I'm not worried about the devil or muhammad or space aliens picking my brain (slim pickins). I just don't feel a need to broadcast my existence to every human in the world. |

I'll sign in as another tech dinosaur. I would still be using a "brick" phone if I could. All it did was make phone calls, and a lot more reliably than today's smart phones. I don't text, tweet, facebook, etc. I call or regular e-mail someone if I want to communicate with them. Don't want to reconnect to people I know 40 years ago. Can't utilize the internet on my phone 'cause I can't read on a 1 1/2" screen. That's for kids with good eyes. My wife set me up a Facebook page but I've never been on it. Don't play video games or solitare on the computer either. My wife & her friends waste thousands of hours each year snooping around each other's Pages to see what's going on. Heck, I don't have time to get all my projects done, I sure don't have time for that. |

I added Facebook because it is today's technology and very popular, especially with the under-thirties, with about 700 million users. There are 240 busnuts currently on the Facebook page for you to connect to (compared to only 135 for BCM). I also added busnut.mobi about 3-1/2 years ago, for viewers who break down in their buses with nothing more than a cell phone and sporadic or minimal cell service. Busnut.com began with the technology that was available back in 1997. Busnut.mobi, ditto. BNO - Bus Nut Online - the social network for busnuts!, ditto. None of the above are going away, none cost you a penny and I'll be here until I die. Now, how about everybody stand up and away from your computers for a moment, stretch long and hard, then come back to the area of this web site that works best for you, ok? I want to see all of you everywhere. And if you think Facebook is insecure and everyone in the world can see your entire life, you haven't used Facebook, clearly don't get it, and need to stay here on the BNO internet site. Enjoy :~) Ian www.busnut.com |
