I am a brand "new owner" of an older MCI that is in the VERY infant stages of being converted. I am also posting to this BBS for the first time although I have been lurking and learning for the past month or so. I am seriously contemplating an "automatic" awning and would like to know if anyone can compare and contrast the ZipDee vs. the Girard in terms of usability, reliability etc. other than the obvious. I have learned that the Girard is 110V and armless and the ZipDee is 12V and has arms. The difference in voltage and arms vs. armless really makes no difference to me so it's the other "features" that I am interested in comparing. What are the good features and drawbacks of each and how would you compare them to A&E or Carefree etc. My only previous experience has been with A&E awnings on my current class A and I had a friend lose his A&E in a wind storm once. Luckly, my awning was a bit newer and somehow made it through that wind storm. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.. |

A mix of fact and opinion. I have A&E on my bus and they were the cheapest when I bought them; that pretty much says it for A&E in my book. I to personally know of several that have unlocked in high winds. I've had Carefree in the past and was satisfied with the locking and operation. Zip Dee enjoys a reputation of quality and high price. They also pioneered the curved arm awning for applications with a curved roofline. Their armless is relatively new and I have never looked at one. Girard was, until a few years ago, focused on the home and commercial awning business. Their armless awning has been around for years and I believe that theirs is the longest extension of all--up to 11'. I know of two people with them, both about 4 yrs. old now, and they love them. Remote control and high quality UV treated fabric that actually looks porous but never leaks water! |
