I am going to Concho, AZ. After reviewing the map of desolation, i decided not to go that route! Was wanting to see Salt lake but not that bad. I live in Oregon, so i think i will take 58 to Reno then to Vegas and then 40 to my destination! Nicer scenery i think!

Bill...I have driven that road and it is not bad at all. There is a nice campground at Canyon De Chelly, AZ (Also a National Park).

I would guess you are Air Conditioned...if so, you need not have a bad trip. Lots of "new" scenery and , perhaps, peculiarities...Indian Nations...if you are not accustomed to them. Interesting and educational....and generally friendly to "visitors". Sure it is "hot", but, most of the southwest is; I would bet even Concho!

Co-Pilot shows 428 miles from SLC to Canyon De Chelly...576 total to Concho. Green River was an "acceptable" stop too, As I recall.

As an aside, Southern Idaho gets pretty warm; one July, we made the trip from Colorado to Salem on a Touring Bike...almost lost my wife from heat exhaustion along the way.

Best wishes! :-)

Bill,

You should be heading the opposite direction, OR and WA are the places to be right now!!

I'm heading out to WA in two days via the northern route, this heat is too much for me. I was going via OK, TX,NM, AZ, CA and OR but the heat and forest fires spooked me! The first half of our trip from AR will be hot enough!

Have a good trip.

I graduated from HS in Albany, great country.

Haha, i live in Lebanon Oregon and work in Albany and Salem. You really think i want to go to Aridzona? I used to live in a town called Florence between Phoenix and Tucson. I moved to Oregon to get away from the furnace. Ya, going to see the mother inlaw for her birthday upon my wife's strict instructions. Not a wise idea. I know.

Beautiful country Dallas we have owned 4 acres on top of the mountain on the south fork of the Payette River since the 80's we are about 4 miles from Crouch towards Banks we float the river down to Banks every year when the flow slows down I love Idaho and it's rivers.
Fwiw the old general store is still open in Crouch and you should see the new school at Garden Valley John Tucker donated the land for on the north end of town on the Lowman highway

good luck

I will be a ways in elevation too when i get there. Concho is near Show low in the white mountains. Elevation about 6300 ft. Why do you say not to loose tire in Flagstaff?

I am headed out highway 58 tomorrow night all the way working my way past Summerlake Hot Springs then over to Gerlach/Empire to hit the Black Rock Desert to go watch the 4th of July show.

Wave if you see me! Decided to not take the '55 TDH-4512 since haven't got the jakes on yet, but will be zipping along in the '74 VW Camper Bus (Orange)

Safe travels!

Ya, I'm not taking the bus 'mc8' either as shes not ready for that type of abuse yet. Instead taking the 28ft class a with air conditioning Uh, knock on wood. I have traveled up 40 going into Flagstaff before and it did very well with the 454 at 65 to 70 right up that mountain. I don't remember what the grade was but it was long! I leave the 6th hopefully goes without any problems. As for the mc8, she will need more close to home attention for right now.

One guy owns all the truck tire shops in town. Last time I was there, he had some pretty amazing prices for them.
