Does anyone know if the guys with 102" have any problem with wander as they are wider than the average, when it comes to the interstate groves?? John |

2 wide body buses, no problems unless they are x-tra deep, where everyone has problems. |

Most 102" chassis have a wider track than a 96". |

Mine's 102" wide and tracks dead straight even on asphalt with deep tire grooves. Then again, the Flyer/AM General is probably the most sure-footed transit bus ever made. |

I have been driving 102's for years with no problem of this kind. Occasionally I have traveled in the track of an overloaded truck that left a deep impression in the asphalt and experienced some wander, but I think that is to be expected with any coach. |

Hi LHD, I don't know what kind of 102" wide bus you have but our 102" wide Prevost has a wider track than our 96" wide 4106. When I built my pit I put a 3" wide stripe at the proper spacing so that with the edge of the outside rear tire just inside the stripe, the 4106 is centered over the pit. With the Prevost the outside rear tire has to just cover the stripe to be centered. That is how my buses are, yours may be different. Both buses track fine. Do any of you truckers know if todays 102" wide trailers, and the tractors that pull them, have a wider track? If so, then the grooves would also be at the wider spacing and not be a problem for a 102" wide bus. Thanks, Sam Sperbeck La Crescent, MN |

Sam, Listen to LHD THE AXLES ARE THE SAME> All bigt truck tractors never changed their width the trailers wn5t to 102 inches wide so that 8' stuff could be put in the trailers and than all the other industries followed but the axles stayed the same. Did 20 years fighting with the four wheelers. |

When I drove across country, I didn't notice any problem with the 102" wide stand of my RTS. I was bring it home to start converting it. I drove I 80, I 29, I 70, I 64. Back when I use to pull a camper with my pick up truck I had a heck of a time with tracking grooves in the road. The wear pattern of I 95 south from Virginia to Florida was terrible. I had problems because the truck and the camper had different axle widths. Even back with a pop up camper it was a constant wiggle from the coast of Virginia to Chicago. Hi Doug, If you go back and read the section of my post about trucks, you will see that I was asking a question about trucks, not making a statement. You have answered the question regarding axle width on trucks and trailers. The first part of my post was in response to LHD saying that "no difference in axel width between 102 wide or 96wide". I know on my two buses the axles are NOT the same. Thanks, Sam Sperbeck La Crescent, MN |

Hi Folks, In the interest of clarification on the width of the wheel tracks on my two buses, I measured them this morning. The 4106 measures 95" outside to outside of tires, 1100X22.5 tires. The Prevost Le Mirage XL measures 101 1/2" outside to outside of tires, 1200X22.5 tires. I am not saying that all 102" wide buses have wider track, only what mine have. LHD, out of curiousity what year 102" wide Eagle do you have? I may be carring this topic too far but I enjoy learning about buses and, being disabled, these boards provide an opportunity to follow my interest. Thanks, Sam Sperbeck La Crescent, MN |

Hi Doug, I don't know how long you have been away from trucking and I may be misinterpreting your post, but I take it that you are saying that all tractors and 102" wide trailers have 96" wide axles. I was out on other bussiness today and stopped at a local trucking company to talk to their mechanic, who has helped me with questions about my buses before. He said tractors have a track width of 96", but 102" wide trailers have a track width of 102". Just for fun we measured some tractors and trailers, all of them were as he said: tractors 96" track, trailers 102" track. I am not aaying that all 102" wide trailers have 102" track, just that the ones I measured did. Thanks, Sam Sperbeck La Crescent, MN |
