Found a bus guy that will provide most everything I need to convert from 8v71 with 4 speed manual to 6v92 (45,000 on rebuild) with allison for $5,500 for my MC8. good deal? I have a bad engine and think I'd like to go to auto trans while I'm at it. This way I have engine and trans. unit together with someone fimiliar with what I need to convert. Any suggestions on this project? |

If the 6v92 and Allison are relatively good condition, it sounds like a pretty good deal to me. Plus the added conversion bits needed... Sound like a winner to me. Brian |

you'll need bigger radiators to handle the extra horsepower....drive shaft will have to be shortened... shifter installed....this almost sounds to good to be true!!... get it in writing beforehand..... |

Hi Phil, That sounds like a good deal. You didn't say where the person is at that made this offer, I hope it isn't a conversion company in Pennsylvania that has been less than honest with some folks. If it is please let us know so we can save you the heartache and financial loss associated with doing bussiness with that individual. |

Also, steer clear of a company in Tucson, AZ, near the airport. Richard |

Hello Phil a small clarification on radiators from above: You may not have to change anything. I stand to be corrected on this but I think that in a stock MC8 install, the heat rejection for the 8V71 and any road going 6V92 aren't that far different. The auto tranny is the devil in the blue dress... were there two rad sizes for the MC8, depending on transmission? Notwithstanding the sometimes argued marginal engineering of the MC8 stock radiators... but that wasn't the point of this post. happy coaching! buswarrior |

I don't know what the "rad size" means. I've been told the radiator size is fine. the 8v71 -318 hp and the 6v92t - 330 hp with cooler included for the trans. I do like that is a currently a matching set, don't need to worry about connecting them. He is in MO. Thanks for the heads up on the other guys. Want my old set up? the trans is in great condition. The engine used lots of oil and this spring, I found coolant in the oil. I did an oil scan and the metals were on the higher end of normal, but not unreasonable. Head gasket or cracked head problem. The engine was rebuilt under 50,000 miles ago. two theories. The guy I bought it from lugged it too much and the rings set up from carbon. (I've always been told to slam my hand in the door before I drive a detroit so that I'm in the right mood to drive) or the rebuiders didn't get the rings, pistons in just right. I've heard that it is work that must be done right. Why the coolant issue came up, I have no Idea. I never had it over heat. So, I just thought, if I'm ever going to make the switch, nows the time. With all that said, if your interested in the engine and trans., let me know. E-mail or I'll be home in the morning, and back after 9:00pm. Going to bed at 10:30. Phone # 616-675-4474 if you want to talk. phil phil |
