Hey all,

Quick request. Looking to pick up a tall valve cover for a 6-71 with jake brakes. Anyone got one laying around they want to exchange for some bucks? I have a short non-jake version to trade as well if needed. Contact me here or email me brandon314 @ gmail.com (remove the spaces)

Thanks!

Good luck, they are rare as hen's teeth. I looked everywhere for months. Finally found a pair, one for me and one for Gene Russell. When Gene puts this one on his engine he just might sell you his tall tin cover if that works for you. Other than that, you might try all the Detroit shops up in BC and on the Island, they used them on some of the off highway 12V71 log trucks.

I found 2 sets (4) in Houston when Mark was searching for one but the guy wants 700 a set and will not sell just one, they were new not used.
I can have a friend check for you they have a lot of DDEC 671L on the gulf coast they all had tall valve covers stamped or cast.
I have 2 DDEC 671's and they are cast covers

good luck

Clifford, just curious, which is better, cast or stamped? Why 2 types? Is one more expensive to make? If you had both in front of you which would you use?

Also, the stamped were prone to bending or breaking the web that the hold down bolts go through due to people over tightening them. Then the cover will not draw down correctly and leak forever.

Brandon Make sure you have the 4 valve heads.

I bought a set of cast tall valve covers and when I went to install the jakes I didn't have the correct heads to install the jakes.

I have the transit heads which is two valve. now I have to find some special bridges that are apperently harder to find than the cast valve covers :-)

Hey,

I actually am upgrading my old 6-71 from a 2-valve to a 4-valve head. The head is rebuilt, kit is purchased, and now am just waiting on getting the rebuild parts for the jakes before I install them.

I THINK I may have found a spacer up in Washington, we'll see this weekend. Currently I have the cast aluminium valve cover (stock height).

I found the valve cover that I needed (tall steel 1-piece valve cover). The aluminium spacer + aluminium cover wouldn't fit on my TDH-4512 with the angle that the water ports/manifold comes off the back/top of the head. Too much interference.

Anyone looking for a aluminium cover + spacer before I throw it on flea-bay?
