Well, last night was the big night. The money crossed the table and the crazy process you are all familiar with begins again.

Thanks to all those PNW nuts who emailed and replied to my last posting. After a few weeks intrerruption for much needed vacation and other family stuff, we finalized the purchase of an '82 MCI 9 last night.

We looked at many shells from Santa Barbara to Bellingham and finally chose to buy close to home. I cannot say enough about the patience and candor of Dan at Northwest Bus Sales. I had a sense when I first saw this bus that it might be "the one", but it took several trips to confirm that feeling. Dan was patient and he knows busses and bus conversions. I have no connection with NW Bus Sales, other than a good buying experience.

After some tips from others on this board, we finally were ok with a 6V92 and Allison 740. In fact a bonus to us was that the bus has cruise control. It's a straight, clean vehicle which starts and runs quietly with the frist touch of the button. All new batteries, and they will remove the seats for us. It needs tires and a turbo.

I was in Santa Barbara last week and ran into a collection of 5's 7's and 9's for sale, including a spectacular 9 priced a little high for me. If any of you are looking in that area, I will be happy to pass along the information. Meanwhile, have lots of questions and again, thank you all for the board and your help.

You and I have about the same coach, Michael. '82 9er with 8v71 & 5 spd. in TX. When you get ready to blast away the restroom, I can give moral support and a few tips.

Welcome to the insanity!

Hi Guys,
You aren't insane, you're just NUTS, busnuts, that is. Welcome to the group Michael. If you haven't already, I would recomend that you join the Northwest Bus Nuts chapter of Family Motor Coach Association. If you can attend some rallies you will see what others have done and share ideas, plus, you will meet some very knowledgeable and pleasant people. Unless you have your conversion all planned they will be a valueable resourse. You are lucky enough to live close to Rickerall, Oregon and, if you can, attend the Bus'n USA Rally July 9,10,11, 2004. Enjoy your conversion project, it is a fun hobby.
Thanks, Sam Sperbeck

Thanks, all. Sam, I am a member of FMCA, but just have not got around to joining the Nuts yet. You can count on us joining soon and maybe making the Oregon event. Great people!

Michael,
Congratulations on your bus. We too bought a MC9 from N.W.Bus sales. We found them extremely helpful and patient while we looked at all their coaches. I would recommend them to anyone looking to buy a bus.

HI Mike

You have made a wise purchase with a M.C 9 the best and most durable coach ever built. Ther are a lot of 9s out there and the parts will be around for a long time. We have a MC 9 1979 in the process of converting. This is our third conversion GMC PGA 3301 GMC 4104, hope this is the last one.Try and use it while converting there so many that start and are unable to use it they get discourged and you see them for sale in several years.

Ted,

Thanks for the advice. You can be sure we will use the coach as soon as we feel it's roadworthy. As others have commented favorably regarding NW Bus Sales, the one question I asked Dan was "I am going to put the most important things in life in this coach, my family. Would you put yours in this bus?" That was a man to man, eyeball to eyeball question and probably the most important I could ever ask.

I am hoping since I am retired (read lots of time)and was an architect, general contractor and cabinetmaker that past experience will alow me to get livable fairly soon. Many of the components are ready and in my garage for installation. I'm working on the floorplans. This will be our home eventually, and the sooner the better, as the mortgage payments end when she's ready.

Michael
