I have often wondered what the markings on the side of my bus represent.
First:
My 4104-4971 bus was sold to Great Southern Coach in Jonesboro AR in 1960.
It has the number 613 on each rear corner.
It also has the following on the side middle bay door.
M.P.-T.C.C. 109014
A.P.S.C. B-534
M.P.S.C. 252

What do these markings represent????

Hey Zimtok,

No idea what those numbers represent, sorry. I just noticed that our '04's were built at nearly the same time. Yours was just 12 ahead of mine... 4971 and mine is 4983. Makes one wonder if maybe they weren't under a particular factory's roof at the same time, huh?

Mine was one of 5 delivered to Limousine Service in New Jersey. No idea where it wandered from there. Good luck on finding your answers. It will be interesting to see what it all means.

Take care,
Kevin

ICC 109014 just comes back inactive on Safer.

The other 2 are probably State carrier numbers. MC stands for Motor Carrier so MP could be Motor Passenger.

Since it went to AR, The APSC is maybe Arkansas Passenger or Arkansas Prorate number the other MPSC is probably a neighboring state number like MI or MO.

I bet someone knows. How about Arkansas Public Safety Commission or something similar.

In the 60's you had to register you insurance with each state. To run all 48, you needed a sleeper to get all the numbers on a truck.

Now you can operate with just an ICC number or a Fed DOT number on the side if your commercial.

I don't know much about it but the numbers on the rear may be the bus number for the owning company. I bet they are rite about the other numbers being state and federal permit numbers. I know there are lots on my left bay door. In the early sixties there were a lot of states with reciprocity which they did't list,

Austin -

613 was your coach's fleet number with Great Southern.

As others have already mentioned, the additional numbers were the state/fed carrier numbers.

FWIW & HTH. . .

:-)
